This lookout point is a great place to see both the Sea of Japan and the inner sea. Enjoy driving through the farmland to Onimai Lookout and watch the horses and cows graze nearby. The wooden shrine building is the oldest in the Oki Islands (1732), and has been designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan. This shrine is dedicated to the deity of safe sea voyages. The hike up to the shrine is very enjoyable. Observe some interesting flora and fauna, and enjoy views out across the sea. This impressive rock arch has been carved by the power of the wind and waves over time. Come here and feel the power of the earth! The local bus goes here 2-4 times per day from mid-April to mid-October. Access: 25 min by car from Beppu Port (then 5 min on foot) Parking and toilet available

This was once one of the highest ranked shrines in Shimane (and Japan). It is dedicated to the deity of fishing and is a popular spot for both locals and tourists. Squid come into the nearby harbor from autumn to winter every year. Maybe you can catch a squid when you visit the shrine... Access: 15 min by car from Beppu Port Parking and Toilet available

Kuroki-gosho Imperial Residence Site Walk around the area and discover where the exiled Emperor Go-Daigo (1288-1399) lived. Admission Free Access: 10 min on foot from Beppu Port Toilet and parking available. Hekifukan Museum Visit the museum and learn more about Emperor Go-Daigo's exile and history in Nishinoshima. (Limited Information in English) Admission: Adult 300 yen, Student 200 yen, Child 150 yen Internation visitor discount is available. Please show your passport or residence card.
