Akao Lookout

Enjoy amazing views of the stunning Kuniga Coast from this point. make sure you visit Akao and take a few photos here. It is also a great place to watch the senset (Top 100 Sunset Spots of Japan). The sightseeing bus tour goes here daily from April to October. N.B. Grazing cows and horses may become dangerous if frightened, so please keep a safe distance away.

Onimai Lookout

This lookout point is a great place to see both the Sea of Japan and the inner sea. Enjoy driving through the farmland to Onimai Lookout and watch the horses and cows graze nearby. Access: 35 min by car from Beppu Port (then 5 min on foot) Parking and Toilet available (Attention: Grazing cattle and horses may become dangerous if frightened, so please keep a safe distance away.)

Takuhi Shrine

The wooden shrine building is the oldest in the Oki Islands (1732), and has been designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan. This shrine is dedicated to the deity of safe sea voyages. The hike up to the shrine is very enjoyable. Observe some interesting flora and fauna, and enjoy views out across the sea. Access: 20 min by car from Beppu Port then 25 min on foot Free parking available Toilet available inside the office near the shrine. Please be aware that the local bus does not go to this shrine.

This impressive rock arch has been carved by the power of the wind and waves over time. Come here and feel the power of the earth! The local bus goes here 2-4 times per day from mid-April to mid-October. Access: 25 min by car from Beppu Port (then 5 min on foot) Parking and toilet available

Yurahime Shrine

This was once one of the highest ranked shrines in Shimane (and Japan). It is dedicated to the deity of fishing and is a popular spot for both locals and tourists. Squid come into the nearby harbor from autumn to winter every year. Maybe you can catch a squid when you visit the shrine... Access: 15 min by car from Beppu Port Parking and Toilet available
