Darent Valley Path

Reviewed By Sandygranny - Sandy, United Kingdom

The Darent Valley Path stretches from Dartford Marshes to Sevenoaks town centre and it is 19 miles long. We enjoy walking and particularly like taking a leisurely stroll along some of the many riverside footpaths – the views across the valley are breath-taking and it is good exercise. While walking the various footpaths you will see the remains of a Roman Villa, two historic castles, lavender fields, plenty of good pubs, ancient churches and some really pretty villages.

Brooklands Lake

Inland Lake and walking area

On the South side of Dartford Park there is a tunnel under Princes Road which leads to the Brooklands Lakes, there are also other many ways into the lakeside from around the area. There is lots of wildlife to see both around, on and in the lakes. There are two main walking paths that take you around the edge of the lakes the shorter of which splits the area into two lakes. The lakes are primarily used for fishing but there are lots of different varieties of water birds and swans can also been seen on the lakes. Terrapins can also be seen either in the water or basking on trees in the sun. A lovely area to walk around whatever the time of year.

Central Park

We had to come into the town for a takeaway during lockdown and while waiting for the food we visited the park. We were pleasantly surprised at how well maintained it was and how clean, in contrast to the rest of the town. There was a nice formal area with flower beds and benches as well as a kids play area and a playing field. A real asset to the town.

For how close this is to where we live, we were amazed by the space on offer and so little people around to enjoy it - check out the fruit orchard, I'm looking forward to autumn when we can go and sample some of the fruit on offer - apples, pears, plums, cherries and more besides - you are allowed to have some as per the signs, but cannot turn up with baskets to scrump the stuff - it's there for everyone to enjoy, and it's pristine down there because so little people go to see it, I hope more people will go and enjoy this place but continue to keep it looking as lovely as it is, a little slice of heaven in the smoke and traffic of Dartford. Just behind the posh housing estate behind Darent Valley, lots of parking - height restricted I believe.

The Enchanted Woodland

I walk here daily with my dog. It’s a nice little area, not to large. You do find young teenagers hanging around but I have never had any trouble with any of them. You do sometimes get people walking there dogs off lead, which I’m not happy about. The volunteers are friendly and try their hardest to keep the area looked after.
