Best room, best view, best burger

Reviewed By huthbot

The title says it all. Great rooms reasonably priced cleaned, with AC and hot water. Walking distances from the beach and town center. AMAZING view from the top floor patio. And possibly the best cheese burger in Honduras. Sorry for the terrible photo of grody dudes but the important part is the view.

Our group arrived at 1PM very hot and ready for a drink by the pool and the beach. We were told no admittance to the rooms or the resort until 3PM! This is a beach resort and it starts getting dark shortly after 5PM. Finally he said if we each paid $25 we could use the facilities. The resort is fine but the staff or the resort policies are terrible. Lots of garbage around the pool areas and loud music blasting during the day. We will never go back there.

La Ensenada Beach Resort & Convention Center

La Ensenada Beach Villas & Resort is located at Bahia de Tela (Tela Bay) on the North Caribbean Coast of Honduras 90 km to the west of International Airport of San Pedro Sula. An excellent paved highway connects Tela to San Pedro Sula and further onto La Ceiba city which is a little over 100 km east. Bahia de Tela offers the most beautiful white sand beaches in Honduras, surrounded by lush tropical mountains and botanical gardens, natural reserves and wildlife refuges, as well as the cultural experience of the Garifuna Culture.

Very expensive and very good except for a glaring fault.

Despite the cost for a family of four at La Ensenada for a one night stay being greater than the governmentally mandated monthly minimum wage, porter service / help with luggage is not offered, or at least has not been, in numerous times that we have spent at La Ensenada.  Other than that the service is good.

Hotel Bahia

Not as advertised, but excellent service

Reviewed By Anthony B

This seems to be a family-owned operation. The main guy in charge was very hospitable and was the best thing about this hotel. He literally saw to our every need and was available even quite early in the morning. I have to admit, though that many of the claims in the description are not exactly as advertised. They did not offer any food, they just had a menu where I could order from a nearby restaurant. The "bar" was a refrigerator with soda and water. The "fitness gym" Is a single bowflex-style machine sitting in the middle of the lounge. The room was fine, but quite small, about what I would get from an airbnb. I did have some problems at checkout, though. They don't accept cards, so I had to walk about a mile to the nearest atm and get money. At this time, the man wasn't there and I was dealing with an older lady (his mother perhaps?). There was no detailed bill, just a napkin with my total due written on it. She took my money and gave me the wrong change back. She intentionally shorted me 50. (a common practice here when dealing with tourists) When I objected, she claimed she didn't have change. When she saw I wasn't going to just gift them the money, she went into the drawer and got my change.

Place is a dump!

Reviewed By Travelerbynature01

Before arriving the photos looked fantastic, reviews seemed good (true--not sure anymore). The hotel looked to be falling apart and the employees reflected this. Never again.... I could hear my neighbors, rooms in front, everywhere drinking, playing music and talking. Food and drinks were very expensive and not good. Did not like each day at the hotel and would not recommend this to anyone, not even a backpacker.

My annual visit

Reviewed By dmount2001

My wife and I stayed at Sherwood’s for our customary two weeks on February. We eat several meals here and love the beachfront experience. Remember that Tela is a third world city so things like elevators and in room telephones are not normal. The food is always good and the hotel is always very clean. You cannot drink the water but there are pure water coolers on the two floors. The views from the fourth floor are wonderful- both of the ocean and the town. One important aspect is that the owner is frequently at the hotel and he speaks fluent English. The rest of the staff, not so much. I always look forward to my two weeks at Sherwood’s.
