Spoilt hen party

Reviewed By alicemQ7696YM

Unfortunately this hotel left the whole party disappointed. On arrival the rooms were wrong, and we had to move rooms (we booked twins and had been allocated king beds) an error that would have been easily forgotten had the rest of the stay been good. The spa was lovely. I had a lovely massage. The spa wasn't overly busy so we were able to sit and use facilities as we wanted. Thankfully lunch was included as we would not have been happy to have paid the prices listed for a very small, very average lunch Evening meal. Included in our package was £30 allocation for dinner. This barely covered a main course on the Al a carte menu. There was only one vegetarian option. In the end we ordered off the bar menu. 2 lemon soles, 1 beef burger, 1 pasta dish and 1 fish and chips. On arrival 3 of the meals were cold. They took these away, reheated 2 and cooked a fresh burger. All 3 of these meals were overly seasoned, and inedible. None of these meals were able to be finished. We spoke to the restaurant manager, he apologised and offered a new main course. Unfortunately by this point, service had been so slow we were now over 2 hours in and couldn't face waiting about hour for another main course to be cooked. The manager offered to reimburse the cost of these main courses, and deducted them off our end bill. When our bill arrived. Only £40 had been deducted, not covering the cost of even 2 of these meals and we had been charged twice for our drinks. We spoke to the duty manager who went through our bill for over half an hour. We had to fight to have the drinks corrected, and our evening meal reimbursed. To start with they insisted it had been taken off, but they had removed if off the supplement. So they had reminbursed the £30 they had allocated us. Not a refund. In the end, I received an exact refund, penny for penny. Which I had to fight for. As a apology we were given a £9 bottle of prosecco. This whole experience completely undid the 'relaxing' spa break we had booked and paid good money for. The customer service was diabolical. We should never have had to fight for the refund we had been promised. The whole experience was shocking. We will not be recommending to anyone we know. Which is a shame as this hotel is in a very easy location for our families, and the grounds are beautiful. But unfortunately neither of those are enough when the experience was this bad.

Great location - good value

Reviewed By Shirt1965

We were attending a wedding locally so this hotel was just what we needed, you know what you are getting with Premier Inn and they offer good VFM, clean room, decent bed and shower. We had a high floor away from most of the road noise. Just be careful of the parking - it is only free on the local car park for Premier Inn guests if you get in the limited spaces at the bottom - two of us got a ticket, which was a bit of a downer. I am not sure all the cars were guests which is annoying as the car park is short stay so quite expensive if you have to pay.

Expected disappointment

Reviewed By matthewhS6040EA

Buyer beware as they say. Knew the cheap price was a risk. Uncomfortable (and small!) double bed didn’t really sleep and felt cramped. Only got one cup one towel etc in the room. Had to ask for another towel as got given a bath mat instead. Staff were incredibly rude when I had the nerve to ask again for an actual towel. Turned the lights on in the room and the switch came off the wall in my hand. The reception staff had a limited understanding of basic conversation. Parking is a bit sketchy. Never been in a hotel where the window is between the room and the public hallway. Very odd. Oh and the kettle takes about 12 minutes to boil which feels like a lifetime after such a bad nights sleep. Nice view over the petrol station. Shower is good though. Would recommend this place for a stag party or similar.

Date Night Dinner

Reviewed By Xbklynite

We decided to treat ourselves to dinner at the Packhorse- our local. I was less than impressed with the speed of the cocktail ordering – the starters arrived before the cocktails! And- they tasted as if they came from a mix . I wondered whether the delay was due to general chaos! Luckily we had a wonderful waitress – Ella – who was really helpful and very professional. She took our orders and made sure that they arrived in a timely fashion. The busyness and popularity of the Packhorse often means that the dishes are inevitably delayed- however even by their standards things seem to slip slightly that evening. Our food was delicious but arrived in a rather random set of intervals. Also because we were seated in a room off the main area, we felt as if perhaps we were slightly ignored. The manager who was on duty that evening was very helpful and responded immediately to our concerns. Big up to Ella and the manager that evening. The food is so good one can forgive the odd bumps in the service.

Kings Newmarket

Nice rooms and brilliant staff!

Reviewed By TheBFG5

We stayed at Kings following a day at Newmarket Races. The bedroom was well decorated, modern, and the bed was large and very comfortable. The room also had microwave, toaster, fridge, kettle, iron and ironing board, and hair dryer. The hotel is also a bar/club and the music was switched off at 11pm which was fine for us. The staff were absolutely brilliant and were fast and effective at bringing drinks to your table, and they had a wide selection of drinks and a variety of food. They have a car park which gets jam packed but we managed to get a space so this wasn’t an issue for us. Breakfast isn’t provided but there is a great little cafe approx ten steps away from the hotel and the breakfast was perfect for soaking up a hangover! The only reason why I haven’t given this five stars is because a box of chewed fried chicken takeaway had been left in our fridge which smelt, and as such I had to go and leave it outside a cleaning cupboard. Would we stay again? Most definitely!

Not up to expectations

Found this Hotel while searching the Booking.com site for somewhere to stay in Newmarket. It is an old hight street pub with rooms and a function room. There is a car park and it is free for hotel guests. The room was clean enough and had a TV with plenty of channels. It was, however, tired and could do with being smartened up. There was no shaver socket in the en suite. On check in we were warned that it being a high street pub there might be some noise. That was an understatement. Our room overlooked the high street and the noise from traffic was very bad all through the night. Lots of HGV's that were diverted off the nearby A14 due to roadworks, It was a hot night and we had to choose between keeping the window shut to try and dampen the noise or leave it open to reduce the temperature. We went into the Bar for a drink and were told that there was no bitter, only lager or cider. The menu was typical pub grub and not at all appealing. We had one drink and went out to find a pub with bitter. We would not stay here again.

We stayed at this hotel after booking last minute costing us £69! This hotel is very out of date, the staff are so rude and tried to make us pay extra as soon as we got there, the bathroom is shared. It’s out the way of everything very out of Newmarket town centre. My friend came home with bites all over her legs & booking.com and hotel refuse to give us a refund. Will never stay at this hotel again.
