Perfect anniversary break

Reviewed By lynneh536

We stayed here for 3 nights for a celebratory break and an opportunity to walk in the local area. Glede Knowe is ideally located, set back from the main road in an elevated location with hill views, yet easily accessible for local eateries. Guy was a great host and had taken great care to cater for my husband's lactose intolerance. Thanks again! Our room and the guest dining room/lounge were spotless and nicely decorated. We slept very well and had a satisfying and tasty breakfast each morning. We appreciated being able to use the comfortable guest lounge each evening and also on our morning of departure while waiting to attend an event at the NTS Printing Works. We will definitely be returning to this gem of a 'walker friendly' guest house.

We booked St Ronans hotel in November as part of a multiple destination itinerary supporting my walk across the Southern Upland Way. Booking was confirmed and deposits taken from our credit card. Reminders about our booking we’re received as recently as 4 days before arrival but, on arrival, we were told the room had been given to someone else despite the staff knowing we had a confirmed earlier booking. The hotel wanted to blame Booking.com when in fact it was the hotel itself that had cancelled the booking just on the morning of our arrival. No alternative accommodation was available within a 2 hour radius due to the mountain bike and piping events that weekend. My wife has Parkinson’s disease and was extremely tired and uncomfortable from the journey. I myself had been walking all day and just wanted to rest at the place we’d planned and booked. However, considering they were not honouring the confirmed booking and the impossibility of finding somewhere else to sleep, there was no acknowledgement of responsibility or the distress this situation caused us. I don’t feel I could trust this hotel in future and would advise anyone to avoid it.

Terrific stay

Reviewed By RXbike

Terrific stay from start to finish. Two of us came by bike and they were stored safely and dry. We had Chinese food for supper and it was the best we've probably ever had. The room had all we needed and it was clean and tidy. As our bike schedule had us cycling early the next morning, we weren't able to have breakfast at the hotel, but the owner very kindly offered to pack us a lunch to eat later on. It was an unexpected gesture but so appreciated. Thank you. Loved our stay !

A Fabulous Home from Home

Reviewed By sezza1935

The welcome from both Pam and Alan was warm and friendly, nothing was a problem, the rooms were very comfortable and well appointed, with home made shortbread to enjoy along with our tea and coffee. For breakfast a choice of cereals, fresh fruit, warm honey, all you could wish for in a cooked breakfast feast accompanied by bottomless coffee and/or tea. All at a time of our choosing. I would like to give this B&B a 12 out of 10 for their service, breakfast and their warm welcome. If you plan to enjoy some time in the borders this charming B&B would be an excellent home base. We left feeling like members of the family and will be back.

Tweedside Hotel

The best test of a business is in crisis!

Reviewed By Vince H

We visited the hotel in end July/early August (as the Festival was starting in Edinburgh) only to find that the complicated cold water system had given problems and some rooms (including the luxury one we had booked) were not useable. Tina, the proprietor, was completely undaunted by this and proceeded to give a masterclass in customer service! Warm, friendly and somewhere we have promised to stay again. The hotel is a quite historic building and has its quirks. Breakfast was lovely (full "Scottish" though we did not have the black pudding ..) The room was very clean and comfortable and we were given as much tourist information as we could handle. Innerleithen is a marvellous centre for cycling - from amateur (us) to the serious, lycra clad professionals (not us). The air is fresh and clean. Hotel staff were friendly and kind - with Tina at their head. A lovely stay.
