The 3 Salmons is the only 3* Hotel in the town centre of Usk. A 17th Century Coaching Inn, located in the centre of this small historic market town, yet with easy access to Newport, Cardiff, Monmouth and to the M4 and 5. The hotel offer sthe tranquillity and beauty of rural South Wales that you will not find in other Monmouthshire hotels. The river is only 100 metres away from the hotel and the beauty of the Usk valley, with its walks and sightseeing, is only a stone's throw.
We had an overnight stay and visit to the area, including an evening meal to celebrate a birthday with breakfast also included. The food was excellent and the service first class very friendly and helpful staff. Unfortunately there was a mix up with the room booking. The staff were very apologetic and we were allocated a different room. The facility was clean and tidy and adequate for our stay, although the mix up was a disappointment to us. The location was ideal for our planned itinerary and is a great spot in South Wales. The town is very rural, and the local pubs in the area were all very good, with some real atmosphere. Would definitely call again and explore more in the area.

The grounds at this hotel are stunning and relaxing, but the rooms need a lot of attention, we stayed over night and was in room 7 across from the lobby the room was tiered looking as you walk in you have a high chest of draws with your x2 cups then down on a stool you have the kettle every unsafe the bed hard hard lumps definitely needs a new mattress the head board is dirty and falls off the wall I did drop a sock down the side I the bed side unit so had to move it to get it back but oh my I wish I never don’t know the last time this was cleaned there was even plastic cups down there , bathroom needs a good clean not nice to have black mould around the shower, the breakfast was stunning but lips on the cups was a turn off , we went to the spa and enjoyed a nice relaxing time here would I stay again no unless they had a revamp of the rooms

For the very best rates visit the hotel website. A warm welcome awaits guests at the Glen-Yr-Afon House Hotel. Our South Wales hotel offers relaxation and a high level of personal service and attention, all in a rural location in the lovely county of Monmouthshire overlooking the banks of the River Usk. The small picturesque town of Usk is just a 5 minute stroll from the hotel.
What a fabulous gem of a hotel tucked away in Usk. With friendly and helpful staff, comfortable beds in quiet rooms and lovely food they have a winning formula. The food served for dinner was delicious and beautifully presented and breakfast was perfect with every persons choices served individually and always with a smile! Special thanks go to the two young men who were serving both dinner and breakfast, for whom nothing was too much trouble and their friendly manner was much appreciated. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Usk (a first for me) and hope to return. Thank you ?

We stayed in the Airbnb next door over the mayday bank holiday. We went in and had the ribeye for 3 of us and the burger all really really good. The steaks were cooked perfectly and the pepper sauce was bang on... perfect. So we decided to book Sunday lunch for the next day. The owner let us book the same table as we had dogs and we all wanted the slow cooked beef so we pre ordered for the next day. The beef was so tender that as you tried to cut it it just fell apart.....perfect. I hate stuffing but the stuffing ball was the best Ive ever had.. the roast potatoes were perfect in fact this was one of the tastiest Sunday lunches Ive ever had in a pub. 100% recommended by us all......

Having read some of the other reviews I must say I don't recognise the place or the people described in them. I stayed for two nights mid week whist visiting a local site. I met at least 5 members of staff and all were friendly and helpful. I certainly didn't meet the angry lady referred to in some reviews. Yes the rooms are on the small side but plenty big enough to function as a bed room. The room was clean and furnished to an acceptable standard. Evening food was well cooked, hot and tasty, breakfast was as good as anywhere and trust me, I spend many days a year on the road. My only criticism would be that I couldn't connect to the free Internet in my room, but I soon resolved that by moving the laptop to the bar and enjoyed a pint whilst I worked. Problem solved. Would I stay here again. Yes I would.

Described in the Independent as one of the "Five best hotels for hikes" and in the Observer as one of "25 ways to do Wales in Style." All en-suite rooms offer luxurious accommodation in a converted barn along with an open plan lounge, dining area where breakfast is served including bacon and sausages from our own Tamworth pigs. We are now carbon neutral so come and indulge yourself with a clear conscience! Features include: • luxury en-suite rooms • cast iron baths • stone floors • underfloor heating • mosaic wet room • wood burning stove • eco hot water & heating • green dragon award • kingsize • latex mattresses • organic bedding • wi-fi
Avoid like the plague, this is certainly not luxurious accommodation as stated. The place is filthy, the cooker is extremely unhygienic including all crockery and cutlery were all unusable, to say they have seen better days is an understatement. Walls damp and plaster coming off. Shower room doesn’t drain away and spills over into the bedroom. No plug for the bath so not sure how you are meant to bathe. And the most disgusting thing of all was the soap they left out for us. Both bars had been previously used…we are in the middle of a world wide pandemic where cleanliness is meant to be paramount and we are left with pre used soap. The owner was conveniently away at the time, so only had her step daughter to complain to. No apologies for the complaint and they had the cheek to charge us for the first night... Having travelled 8 hours from Scotland, we had no choice but to stay the first night given distance we had travelled and the time of our arrival. We were out of there like a shot though once it was daylight. - Very Disapointing and still no response from the owner!

Welcome to the Castle Inn, a traditional family-owned hotel, situated in the centre of Usk. The hotel offers comfortable accommodation as well as a great restaurant with modern amenities and facilities combined with friendly and personal service, you will always be guaranteed a warm Welsh welcome.
Excellent if you want a stay in a pub rather than a hotel, which is exactly what I was looking for. Friendly and efficient check in, the room was clean and comfortable if a little small and the shower was idiosyncratic to say the least, although once I had worked it out it was fine. The pub has a friendly, local, atmosphere with excellent beer and great food a little above the usual pub fare, although they do not currently serve breakfast, just a contintal offering in the room. No food Sunday nights, and shut altogether on Mondays, although residents get a front door key and the barman put me right about where else I could eat. Very dog friendly too, and seats outside in the square to watch the world go by. Highly recommended.
