Lomen Stave Church

Reviewed By reise-tanta-di - Lafayette, United States

We have visited Lomen Stave Church several times before. I especially like the little path leading up to the entrance, the nice gate and the old cemetery in front. However, this was the first time we saw the interior. What a delightful visit it was. We had a knowledgeable guide that provide a lot interesting information. I was pleased to see the old carved Viking gods looking down on us from the rafters. They were often placed there as an insurance in case the new god did not work. They are only visible with a flashlight. Apparently the timber for the church was cut in 1192 or shortly thereafter. The church has gone through several expansions in the 17-1800 century as the population expanded. Tragically the Black Plague in 1350 reduced the population from 3500 to 1200. Still in the Middle Ages Valdres had 21 churches, 18 Stave churches and 3 churches in stone. This is one of the 21 Stave churches left in Norway. They are all unique and special.

5. Valdres Mountain Adventure - Day Tours

Valdres Mountain Adventure - Day Tours

Dog sledding is for everyone. You don't need any experience since our dogs are used to beginners and our guides are professional. You can just look forward to an amazing ride through a beautiful landscape, where the only sound you will hear is the breathing and eagerness of the dogs. We recommend an age limit of 3 yrs. Kids between 3 and 12 can come along on a halv-day tour if it's not too cold. We normally have 2 persons per sled - one driver and one sitting in the front. Smaller children can sit with an adult. We have blankets and reindeer skin to keep you warm. Before we start, you get aquainted with the dogs. They love their job and they love your attention. They are all Alaskan Huskys. We use our own trails that are marked for husky tours - all together approx. 150 km in total.

6. Stoelsrunden circuit

LEVEL: Moderate (Some difficult areas where you need to carry your bike). DESCRIPTION: This route passes by Norways larges summerfarm area with a stunning view in all directions. If you cycle at you own pase, most people will be able to compete the tour. However, we don’t recommend bringing small children. From Vestre Slidre and Vaset, you will enter the spectacular area of Vang, with its poweful mountains and beautiful lakes. There are a few narrow trails and wet areas where you will need to walk or carry your bike, but the majority of the tour is on nice and dry mountain roads.
