Australia's largest and most beautiful inland waterways, the Gippsland Lakes are a network of lakes, marshes and lagoons covering over 600 square kilometres. If you need information don't go here .The small tidbit of information was indeed begrudgely given. Not informed...not truly helpful and with such a lack of enthusiasm for the area???? Perhaps we caught this lady on her "I don't like giving information day". Anyway we went into town to hire bikes and the young lad there was amazing great tips on where to ride and the must do sights... so the up side of the lack of information led us to better information elsewhere and a great bike ride.Well worth doing for 2 to 4 hours which takes you basically right around all the trails and the whole lakes area.

Nyerimilang Heritage Park

Friends of Nyerimilang shop at the park entrance. The semi-formal Gardens and lawns surrounding the homestead contain an interesting collection of exotic and native species. Majestic Gippsland Blue Gums and Coast Grey Box on the cliff tops contrast with marshland in the valley of Maringa Creek. Nyerimilang attracts many species of birds including honeyeaters, black swans, pelicans and birds of prey. There are three bird hides in the park. Princes Highway via the Kalimna West Road. There are plenty of road signs along the way. Nyerimilang is just 10km by road north-west of Lakes Entrance.

amazing to think that this house was built as a getaway for a Melbourne politician in the 19th century. An amazing achievement is such an isolated location. Great job to the volunteers who keep it opened for the public and available for picnics and walks. great views of the lake and ocean. There is obviously a resident echidna in the carpark who is exceptionally friendly. This species is notoriously difficult to encounter so just meeting this friendly guy is an amazing treat.

In the morning we did the beach walk to start the day. Enjoyable.
Afterwards we grabbed our towels, beach chairs and esky and enjoyed the afternoon and late morning on the main beach.
It’s a patrolled beach and the lifesaver support is comforting if you’re not happy around water.
The toilets & kiosk are not far away too.
Recommended.

Wyanga Park Winery

Located on the outskirts of Lakes Entrance. The presentation of this property could do with a spruce up or makeover; very tired.....perhaps some might classify it as "shabby chic"
The wines overall were not to our taste. We did ask if the tasting bottles were freshly opened, but the young lady didn't know. Some of the white wines smelt and tasted quite oxidised; not the bright, clear appearance normally associated with younger Sauvignon Blanc & Chardonnay. They lacked fresh fruit characters that you would expect from these varietals. The Reds were unbalanced, showing lack of fruit ripeness and very stalky green characters. We didn't taste the Muscat. Enough said about the wines.
Now for the positives......We had lunch, which was nicely presented and good flavours. Sat out on the outside deck, which was very pleasant. Kudos to the kitchen team.
The share platter is recommended. The staff are friendly and very helpful with advice about other things to do in the area.

I loved this place. The lovely lady who ran this was friendly and informed me the business had been operating for 55 years. Enough said. There's so much to look at here and if the kids are after a souvenir they are very affordable. There's shells in all shapes and sizes.
