This is the second time I have ridden with the Boltby Stables and they didn't fail to disappoint. Sheila, the owner, always does her best to accommodate all experience's of the riders and match up the horses accordingly. The route she picked included a lovely wooded hill top for our packed lunch with fantastic views all around. In fact, this summed up the scenery for all of our ride. I believe that the diversity of riding scenery is second to none with riding through woodland to moorland and through pretty villages etc.. It is certainly one of my summer highlights that I look forwaqrd to and will go again

Interesting, this huge landmark can be seen for miles. Lovely walk up the side or walk along the ridge to view it from above and watch the gliders taking off and landing.

This lovely cinema is run by enthusiastic volunteers who are very friendly and welcoming. The cinema is a beautiful place to visit with a very good screen and lower and upper level seating. Many locals are frequest visitors and the atmosphere is very relaxed and welcoming. We saw Downton Abbey film and will certainly visit again in future when in the Thirsk area.

St Mary's Church

Due to the current health pandemic, St Mary's is unfortuatley clsoed until further notice. Please do still join us online at www.thirskparishes.org or via our facebook page facebook.com/Thirskparishes. St Mary's is an active church in the center of Thirsk. The building has been described as a fine example of a medieval church. We love the building and want to allow others to enjoy it as well, either to meet with God, enjoy the architecture or soak up the history. Our team of volunteers look forward to welcoming you!

We came here for a quick visit and stayed for communion. Very welcoming parishioners (the lady in particular who welcomed us as we entered) and a charming vicar.

Yorkshire Gliding Club

We offer memberships and professional, friendly flight instruction in a fleet of modern gliders as well as trial lessons for those wanting to try the purest form of flying there is. Our clubhouse is open to the public and our on site cafe provides a welcome break from your scenic walk or bike ride around the National Park; it serves reasonably priced refreshments, as well as breakfasts and lunches most days - whether it's a slice of toast or a full English! Visit our website for details of how you can soar like a bird over the North Yorkshire countryside; try it and get hooked - you'll be flying solo in no time! We kindly ask visitors to note that: - We welcome visitors to our cafe, but can't guarantee opening times, particularly over winter. Expect our cafe to close early on short days, or in poor weather. - Airfields are dangerous, particularly glider fields; gliders are hard to spot and almost silent when landing. Do not walk across our runways, and keep animals under control.

Don't let the bad reviews put you off! Me, my boyfriend and the dog stayed in Chestnut VIP (12b) for 4 nights last week. Despite the constant rain we absolutely loved the week and didn't want to leave. The hottub was the highlight, so warm and clean with daily maintenance. The living area, bedroom and bathroom were well presented and clean. My boyfriend loved the shower, with jets and a radio! There are loads of lakes withing 2 mins walk which the dog loved walking round. We use WiFi so much and was worried we would be bored, but definitely not the case. We prepared with many DVDs and board games which we barely used!! We visited thirsk on the first day which was around 7-10 minutes drive. We had a meal at the Golden Fleece which was gorgeous and dog friendly. We also visited Eden camp which was around 1.5 hours away, but worth the drive. The only disappointments we had was that the kitchen was quite small, and the micro oven was hard to figure out with no manual to assist. All the cutlery and pans were clearly not cleaned properly, but we would have cleaned them before we used them anyway! (Take some dish soap, the one provided is tiny and not very good). We also found that the bed was very hard and could have used with one more pillow, but we got used to it after the first night. Having the dog was fine, however the fence round the bad had a big opening, so he couldn't come out in the garden without the lead on. All in all, it was a great trip, the good definitely outweighed the bad and we are already looking to book again with the family!
