In Zeppelin Museum guests can discover around 1500 exhibits on 4000m² exhibition space. The museum houses the world's largest collection on the history and technology of aviation, a walkable model of the LZ 129 Hindenburg and an art collection that comprises the greatest masters from Southern Germany from the Middle Ages to the present.

My family and I visited this museum during our 2 day visit to Meersburg. Meersburg and it’s car ferry to Konstanz is only a 30 minute drive away. The museum itself, is built around a reconstruction of the zeppelin passenger compartment of the airship. There is a lot of information to read, and most have English translation. The reconstruction is fantastic. For younger children, it may prove to much as there isn’t too much interactive displays. We spent a good 2/2.5 hrs wondering around taking in all of the history associated with zeppelin and of course the famous hindenburg accident. There is a cafe overlooking lake Konstanz with nice views. A must visit.

Dornier Museum Friedrichshafen

Reviewed By MaxPinucci - Florence, Italy

I have visited the Dornier museum several times. It is located on the airport grounds, not far from it and with a view of the Zeppelin NT airship hangar and the Messe (fair). The museum is a tribute to aviation history with a focus on the activities of Claudius Dornier and his beautiful planes, from the 1930s to current aircraft. The path collects scale models, memorabilia, documents and is made with aesthetic care and with good interactivity. The rooms unfold over time, from the first aircraft to the latest technologies for space exploration. A hangar collects some planes (originals and replicas, including the Wal N25 which attempted to reach the North Pole in 1925. On the ground floor there is a nice bookshop and a pleasant (and good) bar restaurant dedicated to the DO X seaplane, with a view on the runway. Outside, in the square, other modern planes and the reconstruction of the barracks of the great war (in one you can visit the design studio). An automatic parking completes the Museum.

The promenade by Lake Constance in Friedrichshafen is converted into a pedestrian street. There is a museum and shops and restaurants. A grand tour allows you to have a 360 ° view of the city of Friedrichshafen and a view of Switzerland on the other side of the lake. It is a pleasant place to spend the end of the afternoon.
