Hot Air Balloon Tasmania

Passengers enjoy a morning flight over the beautiful Tamar and Meander Valleys close by the City of Launceston in Northern Tasmania. Our meeting point 1 hour prior to sunrise is the Country Club Tasmania a short drive from Launceston's town centre. We then choose a launch location depending on the wind speed and direction. Passengers can watch as the balloon comes to life as we use fans to cold inflate and then the burners are fired up to heat and raise the balloon, a gentle lift-off and then into the skies, floating with the breeze until it's time to land. Flight time is approximately 45 - 60 minutes. A GoPro mounted outside the balloon will take panoramic photos of you drifting over the landscape, adding to your own photos you take on the morning. On landing the retrieve vehicles greet you, deflate the balloon, everyone helps to pack away to get back to Launceston for a big well-earned buffet breakfast. All photos are available online and are included in the package.

We started our new year (1 January 2020) at the Penny Royal to enjoy a family outing. There are lots to do at Penny Royal that would suit anybody. Free entry, you only pay for the adventures you want to take part in or pay for the package deals. For the ‘adventurous’ people, purchase the ‘Cliff Pass’ package (includes: cliff walk; rock climbing; zip lines; quick jump) for $59 per adult / $39 per child / concession. For the ‘less adventurous’ people, purchase the ‘Park Pass’ package (includes: Matthew Brady Dark Ride; Brig Tamar Cruise, Cannon Fire + Sarah Island Ghosts; Convict Barefoot Sensation; Gold and Gemstone Mine) for $59 per adult / $39 per child / concession. Or the ‘Penny Royal Pass’ which includes both park and cliff adventures for $99 per adult / $69 per child / concession. Or do what we did and pick and choose what you really want to do. We were ‘less adventurous’ and chose ‘Matthew Brady Dark Ride’ @ $15 pp and ‘Brig Tamar Cruise, Cannon Fire + Sarah Island Ghosts’ @ $10 pp, we paid tickets at child pricing– I’m not too sure if it is a summer holiday deal or that it was the first day of a new year? We enjoyed both rides. Take the time to read the brief overview of people involved in the story, on the side wall while waiting in a line before boarding the barge for the Matthew Brady Dark Ride, to gain an understanding during your ride. The story comes alive with real life looking, moving and talking mannequins, that centres around a bushranger by the name of Matthew Brady during his escape and people after him to get the bounty. Highly recommend this ride, in fact, we were entitled to two rides, which we took the offer – you would be amazed the finer details you have missed on your first ride. Then we sailed the lagoon on the Brig Tamar Cruise and hopped onto a smaller replica version of Sarah Island where you meet the ghosts of the past. Both rides are fun and friendly for children and very entertaining for adults. Take the time to explore the park, they have playground area; free gold panning; gun powder mills; remote control boats… just to name a few. A fun day outing for families. There are restaurants, café, ice-creamery and toilets available on site too. Plenty of parking available but they are meter-parking. The Penny Royal Adventures are open Monday to Friday – 10am to 4pm and Weekends – 9.30am to 4pm. The Restaurant and Wine Bar 7-days a week – 9am to 9pm (closed Christmas Day / Boxing Day 9am to 5pm).
