Me Wah Restaurant Launceston

Superb service and food as per usual. But the care and attention to detail to bend their menu to my daughter's lactose and gluten free dietary requirements was above and beyond. The mango parfait her style was a delight for her taste buds. Thank you Stanley and Patrick and our waitress whose name I have forgotten. Highly recommend.

Novaro's Restaurant

Novaro's Italian Restaurant is located in the heart of Launceston. The intimate 32 seat restaurant has been established for 21 years. Chef Nicholas Hooper offers local seafood, try the Flinders Island greenlip abalone in truffle oil, game and meats on his extensive menu.

We were visiting Launceston and wanted somewhere nice for dinner, found Novaro's on TripAdvisor and it lived up to its expectations. Stepping into a very small but well organised dining room we were greeted by warm and friendly staff who already knew our name. After being seated, we were asked what we would like to drink (FYI they know their wine). We had olives and garlic bread as appetisers, seafood linguine and lamb gnocchi for mains, lots of wine and tiramisu to finish it off. Would eat it all over again!

Stillwater

Local Food, local wine, local talent.... Stillwater's food and wine philosophy: Our food is fresh, grown locally by passionate producers who rely on the attributes of our natural environment. Our State regulations keep the modification out of our genetics, the artificial out of our hormones and the free in our ranging animals. We know grass fed, antibiotic free, natural, happy animals make better meat....even if they aren't 'super sized'. Our water is clean, sourced from Cape Grim on Tasmania's North West Coast, home of the cleanest air on the planet. Our wines flow from around the State but being located in the Tamar Valley means Stillwater is a cornerstone for the local vignerons hosting a list that showcases the highly respected local tipples. Stillwater Partners: The Stillwater owner partnership is home grown as well, raised in a community that nurtures its youth and cares about its neighbours. Stillwater Restaurant: Being fortunate enough to live and work in one of the most beautiful places on the planet is one of the bonuses for the team at Stillwater River Cafe, Restaurant and Wine Bar. Situated in the historic Ritchie's Mill at the mouth of the Cataract Gorge on the banks of the Tamar River in Launceston, Tasmania the restaurant glows with the authentic warmth only an 1830's timber building can offer. The casually elegant ambiance ensures guests feel welcome and comfortable whether enjoying a casual breakfast, corporate lunch, special dinner, a glass of wine after work or just a coffee. Comprised of a number of spaces Stillwater has a main dining room that seats guests comfortably amongst the Oregon timber beams and Kauri pine floors and the original bluestone wine cellar full of character as well as fabulous wines. On fine days the outdoor courtyard offers views overlooking the Tamar River and the Wine Bar adjacent to the entrance is a great retreat for a bar snack and cocktail. Stillwater is open 7 days a week for breakfast and lunch and Tuesday* through Saturday for our indulgent evening menu (*subject to winter hours), Reservations are highly recommended. A vibrant centre of the local community, Stillwater has achieved many hospitality, wine and business awards over the years from local to National for all aspects of the business. Stillwater Providore: The food theme continues throughout the building with The Providore above Stillwater showcasing our fabulous local produce in a deli and food shop alongside talented local arts, craft and homewares.

I have been to Stillwater’s several times over the last 15 years when in Launceston. This time it was a great meeting point with a very good old friend (old in the sense of how long we have known each other).
I love the feel of this old mill and there are some great spaces to explore.
Service was spot on. Parking is available within Stillwater’s private car park for 2 hours. The wine cellar makes a great private dining room for up to 14 guests seated and I was told that the upstairs shop (now closed) Is being converted to lavish boutique accommodation....can’t wait.

We hadn’t booked and were delighted to get the last table for two when we arrived around 7:30.
Service was pleasant and friendly and, having ordered, we were served complimentary popadoms - just as well because there was then a lengthy wait for the food to arrive. It was worth it though!
The lamb and spinach was one of the best we have had anywhere and worked well with the chicken and mango that we also enjoyed.
Be patient - the wait is worth it as everything is clearly cooked to order.

Black Cow Bistro

“Tasmanian Beef Specialist” Located in the historic art deco Luck’s Butchery shop in Launceston, Tasmania, Black Cow showcases grass fed, free range, hormone free, dry aged, premium Tasmanian beef including brands from Cape Grim, Greenhams, Clover Country, King Island and Flinders Island amongst others. Legislation in Tasmania against the use of hormone growth promotants and antibiotics in red meat production combined with Tasmanian graziers’ focus on free-range grass fed cattle produces happy animals and superior quality meat. A flexible pricing structure and side dishes designed around fresh, local produce allow guests to create the dining experience they desire. Also sporting a well-priced wine list with a heavy emphasis on local Tasmanian wines with some full-bodied reds thrown in for good measure. An energetic atmosphere and friendly professional service completes the Black Cow offering. This casual Bistro style has been a hit with the local community as well as visitors so Reservations are essential. A private wine room offers dining for up to 12 guests for those important dinners and negotiations. Open 7 nights a week from 5:30pm to late. The Black Cow logo has been inspired by the amazing ancient artworks in the Lascaux Caves in France. Carbon dating indicates that these paintings are more than 17,000 years old. Black Cow, the name, is a tribute to the Bos Genus… Historically the cow has been important to many cultures. It has been seen and worshiped as a symbol of contentedness, fecundity, the passive yet creative and generative powers of nature, patience, nourishment, abundance, fertility and equifinality. It is also, of course, an excellent source of protein.

My lovely wife and I dined at Black Cow with an interstate guest whilst overnighting in Launceston. Our visit followed numerous recommendations from friends and certainly on nearly all counts met our expectations. Top notch service and one could wax lyrical about the ' simply glorious mouth watering Cape Grim Eye Fillet '. Truly memorable steak !!!
The one significant gripe for me and sadly one which mirrors the pricing at Stillwater in Launceston are the outrageous mark ups on the wine....... surely there is enough profit to be made without charging $18 for a glass of Tasmanian Pinot Noir that retails for approx. $40 per bottle. Rarely have I seen this type of inflated pricing....... simply gouging and restaurant greed !!
The massively inflated wine pricing detracts from the overall dining experience !

A sneaky business lunch during the week was like a quiet oasis in sea of busy! The menu is super tempting and the food is simply spot on. Clearly, the chefs are are at or near the top of their games.
The winery itself looks beautiful and the cellar door was very well served. What a winning combination. I rarely give 5/5 so this was clearly something special!

We have previously eaten here (12 months ago) and again it didn’t disappoint. A soup taster and lovely crisp bread roll with a delicious butter is provided to each table. The menu has dishes to suit most tastes. We started with entrees and chose the fillet of fish and Filet Mignon for mains – all were lovely. The meals are not cheap but are of a very high standard and we would visit again.
