Platinum Jubilee Afternoon Tea

Reviewed By Hannah E

My dad and I went to the platinum jubilee afternoon tea on Sunday 5th June. We had the best afternoon! The food was excellent with a great variety of sandwiches and cakes. We opted for the bottomless cocktails of which we tried them all ? The staff were attentive and friendly the whole afternoon had a real party atmosphere, with singing and dancing. It really was a great way to celebrate and would highly recommend Rookery and will definitely be visiting again.

No breakfast at the Inn

Reviewed By 737davidh737

Although the site advertised a restaurant on site, there isn’t or at least doesn’t open for breakfast! The staff at the reception were quite curt and not very friendly. Maybe is a Cheshire thing. Coming from where we do we expected people to be more engaging. Doubt we will come to this place again……sorry guys.

Terrible behaviour by the bar staff

Reviewed By judda23

Never have we been more embarrassed than today when we were chased out of the Crown pub by the bar man who in no uncertain term accused us of leaving without paying for our drinks!! We said we hadn’t had a bottle of wine as accused and that we had paid for our drinks as we had them did he realise his mistake……but no apology……nothing!! he just went back into the Crown leaving us standing there open mouthed, not quite believing that anyone in that position could be so rude. We have visit the crown and eaten many times in their restaurant before always with positive results. However today we had a dreadful experience. We sat in the bar area for a drink when the young man opened the window as wide as he could when we asked why as the pub in general was quite cool he replied ‘I’m boiled behind the bar’ surely it’s how the customers are and not how the staff are!!! When the table next to us also complained about how cold it was he did close the window. Very poor customer relations

Good location

Reviewed By AmyAbes

We booked to stay here for our anniversary as we are not from area so wanted to make a night of it. The room was quite small but the bed was big and very comfy. Wet room style bathroom and our room was on the end. We paid £100 for the night which included a breakfast, the breakfast was lovely and good choices on the menu. My boyfriend had a full English and I had scrabbled egg on toast. The service from the staff great and food came out in good time. The hotel was in a great location, and there is parking provided for users of the Cheshire Cat behind the back, not a huge number of spaces but we managed to get one and we arrived late afternoon. We were aware that there was music/DJ on when we booked as it states “some rooms may be affected by nose” but I would say if you are a light sleeper and booking for a weekend this hotel is not for you, as from around 10pm til 1am you can just hear the base from the music and it was very loud and definitely affects the rooms. Not worth the £100 we paid for the night, but the room very clean, great location and the breakfast was good.

A Real Gem

Reviewed By nogolfer

Stayed for two nights whilst attending a wedding at nearby Combermere Manor. From start to finish this was an excellent stay. Greeted by Carol who showed us our accommodation comprising bedroom and the largest bathroom we have ever had either in the UK or abroad. As well as the usual tea and coffee there was cake available(different each day). Breakfast was great with a wide choice of cereals and fruit to start followed by a good choice for your hot breakfast. It was nice that you had your own access to your room so that you were not disturbing other guests or the owners. Highly recommended and certainly the best B&B I have stayed in. Thank you again

Great place for families

Reviewed By girl_racer2000_uk

We stayed here in apartment 2 for 5 days. It was perfect for 2 adults and a child. The bedrooms were spacious with lots of storage space and blackout curtains a bonus when it's still light when the kids go to bed. The kitchen is well supplied with everything you could need for a self catering holiday. There's an oven, large fridge freezer, microwave, kettle and toaster. The dining/ living area is nice with views over the canal. It is based in a very peaceful setting and has 2 pubs, a convenience store and a play area within walking distance. It was a perfect base for our trips to chester zoo, cheshire oaks and the secret nuclear bunker at hack green. The only negatives really were the thick winter duvet making it too hot to sleep very well, the hot tap in the kitchen had poor pressure and there was no where to hang wet towels after a shower. The bathroom would benefit from some hooks. Other than that it was great. We would definately go back if we were in the area
