Quirky place, nice decor

Reviewed By Pigginhungry

We booked two rooms as we were attending a wedding nearby. Loved the decor very different, stayed in Peony which was gorgeous, comfy bed, loads of space, massive bathroom! Family stayed in Wisteria which could be converted into twins, again lovely room, nice decor, only had bath with shower over which was difficult to get in and out of, especially if older, bathroom floor very slippy too, maybe some larger bath mats would have solved this. We were able to have drinks in the bar until 8pm before we ate in town, which was nice, although I don't think this is normally open, think we had been advised it closed at 7! Parking is an issue as outside on the street was full and you can only park there after 5 and then it would need moving, however we were able to park in the courtyard which we really appreciated! Breakfast- this was the only thing that let it down, the actual breakfast quality was great, no complaints there. The main issue was the service and timing. The menu is fine lots to choose from but it isn't clear that you need to order everything individually, the first day we just ordered the cooked breakfast thinking the fruit, yogurt, pastries, toast would be served while we waited, this isn't the case, so we waited 25 mins with nothing to eat. After the cooked breakfast we asked for croissants, fruit, the waitress literally brought out a bowl of berries and a croissant each. The next morning we asked what the pastries were as the menu says pastries and croissants, but we were told it's just a croissant, we decided to just get the cooked breakfast and instead of a croissant and fruit ask for pancakes with maple syrup (this was an option on the menu) we made it clear it was just one portion to share. The waitress checked in the kitchen and told us we could but it would be charged! I found this a little pedantic given we weren't having any pastries etc! We didn't bother. Service is slow we had to ask for everything such as toast, more drinks, sauces etc. like I said when it does arrive it's very nice!

Could be much better

Room was ok and clean, few things like mattress was uncomfortable and had a dip so we didn’t really sleep, kettle was dirty and grimy so had to clean it, more towels and the essentials were needed so trips down to reception. Plus made a cup of tea in the morning and the cup shattered into tiny pieces when hot water was put in it and a cut finger later, good job we didn’t have any kids with us, so dangerous!

Outstanding staff - pleasant stay

Reviewed By kimberleyhV5383VA

We stayed here for 4 nights at the end of May for our pre honeymoon. The hotel is very clean through out, spacious and inviting. The room we stayed in (No2) was a lovely room, the bed was two singles pushed together, although we were not expecting this it was very comfortable, when you were not rolling into the join in the middle. The room was very clean and smelt lovely and fresh upon walking into it. The only thing that was a slight let down with the room and the reason for not a five star rating,is because there was a constant humming noise like a pump/tumble drier, that only stopped for a few seconds then repeated all night which did disturb our sleep a little. We visited the spa facilities and enjoyed the jacuzzi and the sauna room. we did go for a quick swim in the pool but found it a little bit on the cooler side to swim for too long. The best part about our stay was the staff! A couple of mentions, firstly Glynn was amazing, he had us both in stitches in the evening when we attended the bar. He was very polite, attentive and overall a really lovely person. We believe he was the manager. The second mention is to George one of the bar staff, he was very friendly and was genuinely interested in chatting to us and finding out how our day was ect not just pleasantries. The choice of drinks at the bar was a fairly good selection. prices were about the same as most places. We did not eat at the Hotel so can not comment on food. Thank you for a lovely stay and to the two members of staff we mentioned for making it what it was, we will definitely be back again.

Fantastic food

Apologies I had already started tucking into my meal when the photo was taken Delicious starters didn’t last long enough for a photo but the winter soup was delicious perfectly seasoned. The salt and pepper squid melted in the mouth. Our mains consisted of a perfectly cooked rare/medium steak served with vine ripened tomatoes, chips, onion rings and rocket salad (added sautéed mushrooms…good decision) Salt beef burger tasted epic (Byron burger with all the trimmings at half the price) Well done guys the bar staff were also super friendly
