7 Top-Rated Hotels in Sudbury, Babergh District, Suffolk, East Anglia, England

August 10, 2022 Jana Sager

Sudbury is a historic market town in Suffolk, one of the largest counties of England in East Anglia. Sudbury itself is worth exploring on foot, a small family friendly town with a shopping area (mostly full of chain shops but with a few great local shops), and a few good bars and restaurants. Fans of art history will be pleased to discover the house of Thomas Gainsborough on the appropriately named Gainsborough Street at the bottom of Market Hill, and book lovers may be amused by the plaque at St Peter's Church which acknowledges the fact that the town was referenced in Dodie Smith's classic 101 Dalmations.

Afternoon tea for two

Reviewed By Liz V

We had booked a lunchtime slot for our afternoon tea, we were asked to choose our own table, which was better than being shown to one and then thinking I would have preferred to sit over there ! The pot of tea was refilled as many times as you liked, the sandwiches, 4 each, were very tasty, the fruit scones were huge and 4 little cakes each to finish off. As we couldn’t eat all our cakes we were provided with a ‘takeaway’ box so we could eat them later. All the staff were polite and friendly. All in all a very pleasant time in very pleasant surroundings. We parked in the car park across from the hotel, registered the car at reception allowing us to stay as long as we needed. After our tea we then walked into the town centre and had a lovely afternoon wandering about. Sudbury is such a lovely place.

We stayed in the Old Stables in two very comfortable rooms. A warm welcome from the host, Frank. Had a swim in the lovely heated outdoor pool - a real treat after a day’s travel. On Frank’s recommendation we are at Lavenham Greyhound - really nice selection of tapas and great service. After a lovely breakfast, superbly cooked by Dawn, we headed off on our next adventure. Can’t speak highly enough of this lovely house and accommodation.

Shocking! Booked three rooms for business partners to stay there for the night, the description clearly states including breakfast, however, they were offered a bowl of porridge and coffee making facilities in their bedroom.... Never again!

If you want a proper, modern hotel then this isn't for you. If you want to be invited into a good friend's home where they haven't quite tidied up but will welcome you with fantastic hospitality, small but comfy rooms and a great breakfast then this place is a gem. Main building is 11C and the 'modern' bit is 14C. All old beams. Lavenham village nearby looks like a Tudor film set. Traffic can be a little noisy as it's right on the A134 but didn't bother us at all.

Warm, Comfortable and Well Fed Weekend Away

Reviewed By paulwM6445LT

We stayed for two nights for a family weekend away and Newmans Hall B&B was perfect. Great communication and a warm welcome made for an easy stay. The rooms are to a high standard, comfortable, cozy, and clean. Great breakfast both mornings, excellent coffee! Our teenage daughters enjoyed the large heated pool and our dog was well received and also enjoyed her stay. Host's dogs were also very friendly. A thoroughly professional service, we would happily return, this area has a lot to offer and Newmans Hall is an ideal base. Thanks for the easy comfort.

Really beautiful setting and a fun stay. Surrounded at all times by chickens and ducks. Perfect. Hosts very helpful and friendly. Would recommend for a fishing trip. The pods are warm and cosy. Plenty of clean loos and showers. Highly recommended.
