Rocktown Trail

We were staying in this area during the federal government shut down that prevented us from exploring some of our original destinations. This gem was discovered by my husband and became the highlight of our trip. We enjoyed the rugged topography, so different from our part of Florida that we spent hours climbing and exploring the trail. We returned another day to explore the other trails along the mountain.

Even on an extremely rainy day the house and surrounding grounds are so beautiful. I was so disappointed that the hours for touring the inside of the home is only on limited hours and days. Nonetheless, the grounds and exterior are worth the drive, and historical markers very interesting if you are in the area.

Keown Falls

Reviewed By Samuel D - Norcross, Georgia

A bit off the beaten path, but not too far from Chattanooga or Atlanta and pretty close to Dalton or Rome. The Falls are in the John's mountain wildlife management area. There is an upper and lower access trail. The lower trail is a pretty smooth gravel road and not far off the paved road. The upper trail goes to the top of the mountain and offers spectacular views. It is a few miles long and if you are in a car with low clearance drive very carefully. Whenever I have come there have not been lots of people. The falls are nice and there is a pretty good picnic area at the lower trail head.

This welcome center occupies many acres several miles south of Chattanooga. It has a very large building with multiple, clean bathrooms.

We were travelling with our daugher and her dog and were very pleased with the large expanse of open area available for dog walking.

We picked up a glossy brochure on places to see in Georgia and found some we had not visited even though we have lived in Georgia for almost 30 years. A great place to stop and relax before the onslaught of traffic heading to Atlanta.

We had so much at Cloudland State Park. The waterfalls are absolutely beautiful as well as the scenery as you hike to get to them. The campsites are large and spacious. More importantly you are not on top of each other. The staff at the visitor's center were very nice and helpful. Plus they have all kinds of cute stuff for you to purchase to remind you of your stay. We will definitely be coming back.

I loved the innkeepers and their devotion to making people comfortable and informed. The only distraction is the traffic. But where can you go that that isn't a drawback?
