Enot Tsukim Nature Reserve - Ein Feshkha

Enchanting pools and lush greenery await you at the foot of the towering cliffs at the heart of the lowest oasis in the world. Eynot Tzukim Nature Reserve in the northern part of the Dead Sea is one of the most unique and interesting in Israel, both because of its rich variety of flora and fauna and because of the remnants of human activity discovered here. The site offers wading and bathing pools, a hiking route, the “hidden reserve,” view of the retreating Dead Sea, archeological site from the Second Temple period, picnic tables and shaded areas. Guided tours are available at the site, about an hour to an hour and a quarter long. For details, updates and opening hours, please visit our website.

Balm of Gilead Farm - Biblical Agriculture Revived

At the Balm Of Gilead Farm, we grow rare biblical plants and produce a wide range of products from them, including essential oils, incense, soaps, and more. We are the only place in the world that cultivates some of these plants, including the recently revived Balm Of Gilead, grown on the northern banks of the Dead Sea for the first time since Biblical times. We invite you on a multi-sensory journey through history where you can touch, smell, taste and see what was once used in Biblical times as an expensive perfume, an oil to anoint kings, a medication to heal the sick, and burned as incense in the Temple.

Qumran National Park

Reviewed By KimGTravels - Pacific Grove, United States

In 1947, Bedouin shepherds discovered over 2,000 year old Jewish religious scrolls, reflecting perfect copies of Books from the Jewish Tanakh and now contained within the Old Testament of the Christian Bible. Remarkably well-preserved due to the dry desert environment, the scrolls were stored in pottery jars, hidden within difficult to access, hillside caves. The complete Book of Isaiah was written in the 2nd Century BCE, on 17 sheets of leather, stitched & scrolled together, nearly 24 feet in length. Ultimately, through decades of archeological explorations, hundreds of parchment and papyrus scrolls have been revealed. Dating from 3 centuries BC through the first century AD, it is believed that the scrolls were secreted from the invading Romans. Meticulously transcribed by the Jewish, Essene religious sect, evidence of their village and strict, severe lifestyle have also been excavated. A short film introduces the viewer to this fascinating history, claimed to be the most significant archeological discovery, a true miracle of the preservation of God's written word. Traveling with my adult son, we explored the vast area, with my son scaling the mountain cliffs up to one of the accessible caves. Views of the Dead Sea and the mountains of Jordan beyond are breath-taking during the varying transitions of sunrise and sunset. A restaurant at this location also makes for a nice rest stop. This was one of the highlights of our trip throughout the Holy Land.
