The Punjab (/pʌnˈdʒɑːb/ ( listen), /-ˈdʒæb/, /ˈpʌndʒɑːb/, /-dʒæb/), also spelled Panjab (land of "five rivers"; Punjabi: پنجاب‬ (Shahmukhi); ਪੰਜਾਬ (Gurumukhi)), is a geographical and cultural region in the northern part of the Indian subcontinent, comprising areas of eastern Pakistan and northern India. Not being a political unit, the boundaries of the region are ill-defined and focus on historical accounts.

Harike Wetland and Bird Sanctuary

Reviewed By abhinishv - Secunderabad, India

The Harike Wetland is located at the confluence of Beas & Satluj. A lot of migratory birds were seen during the visit. One should carry a binocular since the jungle trail is on the outer edge of the wetland and the birds are generally at a distance. Morning time of visit is preferred. A permit is required for entry. The forest office is just 2 Km from the wetland. Google map shows wrong direction to the wetland therefore it is better to put " Nanaksar Gurudwara Sahib, Harike " as the destination. From the Gurudwara the bird sanctuary is just 1-1.5 km on the same side of the barrage. The forest trail till the parking inside the sanctuary is approximately 2.5 km from the main entry gate where the permits are checked. A lot of bird watching towers have been constructed to facilitate bird watchers. A great place for a weekend outing with family & a must visit picnic spot.
