Mayon Volcano

The highlight of our visit to Bicol was Mayan Volcano. We stayed in a hotel Casablanca suites in Legaspi that overlooked Mount Mayan and Lignon Hill. We captured great views from Lignon Hill and had fun with the zip line. I would strongly recommend a visual to Daraga Cathedral as it is an awesome church and also has great views. We visited the Caswaga ruins and rounded out our visit with a trip up the Mountain on the road to Tobaco PH. It is not well marked so you will need to be observant. The windy road is several kilometers long but well worth the vistas of the shoreline and mountain though you will probably be in the clouds and not see the top.

Vera Falls

I was a bit hesitant to visit and include this place in my must-see destinations in Albay due to its far off location in Legazpi and the weather during this month. But having heard from the people in Legazpi that we should see this place, my friends are excited to check this out. If you are a backpacker, from Tabaco tricycle terminal, ride a trike going to Quinastillohan and tell the driver to drop you off at the junction going to Vera Falls. It's a 30 mins ride and then you will ride a habal-habal/motorcycle for about 30-45 mins. You will see the Mayon Volcano going here if it is a clear weather. The road is surprisingly paved and at the end of the straight road is like a dead end but the downstairs will take you to Vera falls. There is mini carinderia and a store for BBQ or some light snack and comfort rooms. Entrance fee is 10 pesos. Huts can range from 250-450 pesos. The water is cold and refreshing. There are deep parts near the falls and more shallow parts. It is really enchanting and I hope that the people will be able to preserve this piece of nature. I hate seeing this place being ruined due to garbage, some I've noticed behind the big rocks.

Lignon Hill

On another day we went to the lignon hills me and my wife together with her two nieces and nephew and drove our car to the top of the hills after paying 25 pecos for the nieces and nephew and only 10 pecos for me and my wife since we are local residents of Daraga Albay. When we reached the top we could see the lovely view of the whole city and the Mayon Volcano and took several nice pictures and enjoyed the lovely weather and beautiful seen from the top of the hills. We also rested and the restaurants there. Again, me and my wife were very happy that we managed to entertain the two nieces and nephew who came specially from Manila and Mindanao to attend the 18th birthday debut of our daughter in 2nd March 2020. We promised to come back again with a bigger family group.

Lignon Hill

We went here at noon and it was so hot but the good thing was there were just few people. You can buy sili ice cream and souvenirs there. There's also zipline. Love seeing Mayon from the viewpoint of that area. On the other side of the hill, you can have a bird's eyeview of the city, Legazpi Airport, and Pacific ocean.

Penaranda Park

The Penaranda Park (Freedom Park) is a plaza dedicated to the first Governor of Albay, Jose Ma. Penaranda who served from 1834-1840. Following the traditional style of Spanish-type plazas, the Park is surrounded by administrative and religious institutions, most notably the Albay Capitol, the Legazpi City Hall, and the St. Gregory the Great Cathedral.
