Skeikampen Alpinecentre

Skeikampen Alpine Centre offers 11 lifts (incl. 2 wonder carpets) and 17 slopes totalling 21 kilometres, with an altitude difference of 350 metres. There is a popular fun park, not to mention a large children’s area with lifts and slopes for the little ones. Ski in ski out. And if you can’t get enough skiing in the day, we offer evening skiing 2-3 times a week. For those who prefer cross-country skiing, we have 600 km of trails. The network of trails on Skeikampen runs along the treeline between the mountain and the forest, providing plenty of variety. You can start with a tranquil morning ski through pine forest, with just the sound of birdsong and the odd elk tracks, and then later in the day take in the views across to Jotunheimen and Rondane from the top of Slagsfjellet.

Helvete

A priest from the local communiy managed to get down into Helvete (Hell) and when he reached the edge on his way up again, with old, moldy bones in his hands, he said he can now claim being the only priest in the country who have been to Hell and gotten out in one piece!! Northern Europes largest potholes, one of the wildest thing you se and experience in the Norwegian nature!!

First: You need to coordinate hands and feet to walk the route through the potholes of "Helvete". The route is far from extreme, but involves some light climbing where you need to hold on tight to railing. The spectacle is what a river underneath the ice of the previous ice age has dug through the rock. This is a rather deep "canyon" with a series of potholes. The slick, curved walls are impressive to watch and provide a reverbing acoustic experience. It is a very nice example of the wonders of nature. The name is perhaps misplaced. There are no flames or evil here, but one can easily imagine the powers at work to form the potholes. We loved the experience.

Trail to Helgafossen Falls

We follow the river for a while, before reaching the rapids/falls. They are not exactly rapids for rafting on, but they are well worth a visit. The start of the route is marked at the underpass by Skeikampen Fjellandsby. Red arrows are painted on the wall. Follow the road to the T-junction and then proceed straight on along the path. This is where the cross-country ski trail runs in winter, so it can be a little wet in summer. After around 20 metres, take a clear path to the left. It is marked red. Follow the red trail to Helgafossen. There are several small rapids and picnic spots along the route. Follow the path out of the forest (by the old waterworks). Go left towards the little garage. Here you will find the red path back. After heavy rain, this path can be wet. The trail is great for families with small children as the terrain is easy. Note that at times of high water, the river can be fast-flowing with strong undercurrents

5. Trail to Skardbua

Skeikampen, Svingvoll 2652 Norway

Expert route at the top of Skeikampen. Its a steep climb up or you can start the easy way and take the chair lift to the top. From here you will find an excellent single track with a wonderful view. Here you can see into the national parks of Jotunheimen and Rondane. The route is technically and made for proficient and expert mountain bikers. Goes all the way north of Skeikampen at nice and difficult singeltracks end at the Peer Gynt road 9 km north of Skeikampen.

6. Trail to Kyrakampen and Knutsholoa

Skeikampen, Svingvoll 2652 Norway +47 61 22 50 00 [email protected]

Follow the gravel road to the left. At the crossroads where the road goes off to the left you’ll find a path leading up to Kyrakampen. Follow the path over the hill – this is the toughest part of the whole trail. Follow the tractor track until it stops at a cabin. Here the trail turns off to the left, past the small brook. After about 1 hour, you’ll have reached Ulvtjernet lake and from here it is another 30 min or so to the top. You can also visit Knutsholoa, a silver mine from 1850. Follow one of the paths down the north face of the mountain. The mine entrance is around 40 m long and ends in an 8 m deep hole. You therefore need to take a torch with you. The mine is named after Knut Rasmussen (b.1792), who was considered a “wise man” in his time. He tracked down water and lost livestock. When he predicted a large seam of silver in Kyrakampen, he was believed and mining started. Despite several attempts over the years, no silver has ever been found. Follow the same path back, or continue east on the path to Tresnipp Saetra and follow the road back to Austlid.

7. Bike Trail to Austlid Fjellstue

Skeikampen, Svingvoll 2652 Norway +47 61 22 50 00 [email protected]

Family route from Skeikampen to Austlid. Follow the gravel road over to Austlid with beautiful surroundings. The small lake Veslevatn is a nice place for a bath.
