Sandy Beach

Reviewed By jimhK8033QI - Niagara Falls, Canada

Hard to believe that with such a rugged and rocky shoreline that's typically associated with Lake Superior, that you can find such a large sandy beach with high quality sand! You can walk for over a mile from the rocky face at the north end to the private cottage area to the south. If you can stand the cool water temperature it's even a great place for a swim!

Wawa Goose Statue

Reviewed By jahoduluth - Duluth, United States

My wife and I recently stopped at the Wawa Goose statue located at the Tourist Information Centre while making the Lake Superior Circle Tour. If taking Ontario Highway 17, you will need to get on Highway 101 (Mission Road), but the statue and information centre are prominent on the left side of the highway within a half mile of Highway 17. Besides the iconic goose, there are several interpretive displays both inside and outside telling the story of the struggle to get Highway 17 built between Wawa and Sault Ste. Marie, people who played a role in local history, and more. The information centre is also one of the stops to get the Lake Superior Circle Tour certificate and has restrooms; a stop for that purpose alone is recommended if you're taking the tour clockwise as there are few alternatives on the 141-mile (227 km) stretch between here and Sault Ste. Marie and the route is not fast with its many hills, curves, and scenic pullouts.

Michipicoten Post Provincial Park

Yes, you can access this park and its beautiful beach if you stick to the correct road and trail, all of which are located on public (Crown) land. Stop in at the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry office in Wawa and they can direct you how to get to the Park. The Ministry will likely recommend that you walk in from the Highway, so it is a good hike in, but it is worth the walk when you arrive at the beach. I will attempt to construct a map indicating the way to walk in and post it here later.

Silver Falls

Beautiful waterfall and nice hiking trail but long and a little tricky. It was easy to find parking area and there is also a trail below the falls from the bottom up if you go around by the marina.
