Meneer Tabak

A blink-and-you'll-miss-it spot nestled in the centre of amsterdam. Mister Tabak doubles as a gallery where local creatives are offered a platform to display their arts and crafts. You'll find a nice mix of local and european brands. Offering a wide range of jewelry, bags and interior design. Our favorite are the handmade wooden canal houses - great souvenirs!

In the centre of the city you‘ll find this small shop in the basement. With very cool designer products by mostly local designers. The shop owner will greet you with a smile and is happily to tell you something about the products and their designers. This is one of the coolest shops I found in Amsterdam. Go here and you will find something unique, bold and special.

Hema

There are more than twelve Hema department stores around Amsterdam that offer everything from soup to nuts.

I wish the UK had a Hema. We travel on the ferry and always in the past 10 years went to Hema for our breakfast it’s cheap and the food is lovely. I usually have what we call in Uk a cheese pasty sorry Greg’s but these way outshine you. The cakes also scrumptious I always end up making a utter hog of myself. It’s not a huge department store there’s a small food part, and clothes. The makeup I love too I always stock up on nail polishes, make up brushes, eye products and foundations. All products are very reasonably priced. The lady toilet attendant was rude but I think she’s probably separate to the store. I love the sweets and biscuits which I bring back home. Please don’t ever close.

I admit, I'm a shopper. When I travel, I regularly check out the better department stores in the city's I'm visiting. Here in Amsterdam, it was the city's premier department store De Bijenkorf on Dam Square. A flagship store of luxury goods and top designer brands from around the globe. It's a beautiful store, that's well designed and organized, along with a helpful staff. I was very impressed with the men's department, one of the best I've seen. In addition to fashionable clothing, De Bijenkorf offers a wide range of luxury goods and services, typical of a department store of this quality. De Bijenkorf also offers tax-free shopping for those outside the EU. If you're in the mood to dine, their restaurant's offer a range of options. One of the best department stores I've ever been in.
