Lake Minnewanka

There’s no comparing the emerald green waters of Minnewanka with any urban landscape. Mountain ridges stretch as far as the eye can see, eventually blurring into a blissful cascade of colours.

While the flush toilets were out of order during our visit in June 2020, this is a perfect picnic spot in the mountains. Beautiful lake, right at the start of lake Minnewanka loop. Once covid 19 restrictions are lifted, this place comes with kitchen shelter, flush toilets, picnic tables and a fire pit with each table.

Great place to go with a family or as adults. Take a picnic, go for the easy 2.5 km hike around the lake, SUP/kayak, etc. Not too busy and so lovely to spend a day. Highly recommend! **do not confuse with Johnson Canyon! Totally different places and experiences!

Saw large porcupine here before and a nice hike up. At a couple of scenic viewpoints, dog bags were visible in trees. Trail gets busy with people going to the tea houses, Big Beehive so start early. Can see Mirror Lake from the Big Beehive viewpoints along with Lake Louise.
