Idyllic Wedding Venue

Reviewed By Keith B

We stayed at this hotel recently for our son's wedding. The venue and overall accommodation lends itself beautifully for a wedding occasion and to add to that the staff are extremely accommodating and friendly. Nothing is too much trouble. We would have no hesitation in recommending the hotel for any occasion as we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thank you again to Marie and her staff, especially Katie who was our main point of contact for the wedding. To add to our stay we were able to book dog friendly accommodation which was perfect!

An atmosphere of old fashioned austerity

Reviewed By Fussy_People

We were booked here as part of our walking holiday by Celtic Trails and it was the most disappinting of the stays. From the start, it felt like we'd been thrown back to the early '90s by the slightly strict approach of the hosts. The room was fine (although not spotless) and the breakfast good enough (good porridge, overcooked boiled eggs). We also had a packed lunch from here which was a bit disappointing particularly as it included cheap ham which we'd been careful to avoid requesting.

A jewel in the crown

I had a lovely stay at Cross Keys. The owner was friendly and couldn’t do enough for me. The room had everything I needed and was clean and comfortable. I met lots of nice local who were very friendly and most had dogs. The breakfast was good and the coffee was excellent. There was a music lesson night hosted by Ian Lowthian, Accordianist. along with his pupils and friends. What a great night. Can't praise this Inn enough. Give it a go folks

Awful

Reviewed By LKJJH22

Very very disappointing. We pre booked our table in advance as we were a large family (13) and also confirmed on the day. Arrived and no table was ready, instead a few regulars and a large tv sat on the table in the ‘restaurant’ this had to be moved then, as we arranged the table ourselves the young lad came with place settings. It seemed as if we were a nuisance to the man who took our order - I presume the owner? The food came in dribs and drabs and was certainly not quality of any kind. The starters weren’t the worst to be fair however the mains were awful. A few of us had the roast which you would think was a safe option unfortunately it was very disappointing and the one small Yorkshire pudding was clearly bought in from Iceland. Some had the fish and chips but it was so greasy it was inedible, even the dog was offered some and refused! The children's pizzas were also the cheapest and they had added some grated cheese as if to make up for it. It seemed as if we were a hassle to them rather than grateful for our business on what I can only describe as a very remote area. No-one even thanked us on our exit. Another thing to note is the hot water is a health and safety hazard, the temperature was extremely hot and very dangerous for children and there wasn’t a sign warning anyone. My advice to about one visiting the area is travel a little further to get a much better experience. We wish we had stayed at our accommodation and had a bbq.

Old and tired hotel - door only open 4.30-7.30pm

You have to work hard to get into this hotel, we had to wait 2 hours before we got access. Very steep stairs with no lift. Twin room is small and furnishings are tired. Bathroom with shower was adequate. No food available in evening but breakfast was fine.
