nice, bar with friendly staff & lively locals so made for a good atmosphere. more than can be said for the angel inn round the corner. very poor service and poor value. also very quiet. we just had drinks at the lion, but the food we saw going out made us wish we had eaten here rather than waste our money at the Angel! will be back.

The Wheatsheaf

Set in the small village of Corbridge in Northumberland, this Grade 2 Listed building is home to a local dog friendly country gastropub, serving delicious dishes and providing bed & breakfast for guests in our six bedrooms. A delightful pub, with a toasty fire in the bar area, and an informal seating area with table service for those that want the restaurant experience. We pride ourselves on our service, our family friendly environment and our simple but tasty food!

Everything you could want here

This was our first visit to the Wheatsheaf. Called in for lunch. There is ample parking for customers at the pub. My wife has some specific dietary requirements, and this was not a problem at all. We were very well looked after. Very friendly staff. Food was excellent. We will definitely be back again.

The Angel Inn

Welcome to the Angel Inn or the Angel of Corbridge; a traditional Northumbrian pub steeped in history, great British hearty pub grub, real local ales, dog-friendly and log fires. When it’s cold we will have the fire on so relax and keep warm in our lounge and when it’s warmer our south-facing outside seating is a great place to watch the world go by with a nice cold beer or two. The outside seating area is semi non-smoking as we endeavour to make it enjoyable for everyone including walkers and cyclists. We are and always have been an Inn and we have ten very unique bedrooms as well as an apartment. Our rooms are all warm, comfortable, safe and, best of all, includes a full Northumbrian breakfast including local black pudding. The Angel, as it’s known to the locals, dates back to 1569 therefore, all our bedrooms are very different in shape, size, noises and location or, as we like to say, quaint and quirky. Some face the main street, others face the car park and some are above the kitchen however, it’s simply just part of who we are and the tariff reflects this. If you and your friends are fishing, shooting or hunting in or around the stunning Northumberland countryside then the Angel is a perfect choice. If you return with some of your catch we promise that we use every part of the game and even exchange your catch for beer!

Overnight stay on cycling holiday

Stayed overnight on cycling holiday. Great location. Secure cycle storage. Comfy rooms. Helpful, friendly staff. Although on arrival one room set out as twin rather than a double hotel staff very quickly sorted this for us with a smile. Tasty breakfast.

Just parking next to this historic building gives the visitor goose bumps. The grounds of the Mill are wonderful, peaceful and ideal for reflection. The rooms, including the en suite, were large, clean and tidy. They are equipped with everything you need for your stay. You will need to travel out for food or bring it with you on arrival. Lovely bespoke breakfast which complimented the place as special. Everything is covered on the accommodation description so well worth a close read. I.e. no TV. It would be lovely for the owner to produce an history of the Mill and it's immediate area so that the visitor can visualise every brick and use in the past. Highly recommended for walkers as well as longer stays to visit the area.

Very disappointed

We're new to the area and heard that this venue was very popular. This became apparent by the numbers of cars in their carpark. However, very underpar Sunday lunch.....particularly the very dilute gravy ! Sorry, unlikely to return !

Service usually very good

Visited here and was met with a member of staff who was unable to be friendly, and was unable to say please or thank you. Please when asking for the money, thank you on completion of payment. This happened with me and everyone who came into the pub. I find it strange that you would want to give money to someone who was unfriendly to you, and if you are working in a place where your customers are the ones who increase/decrease revenue, it is baffling.
