National Motorcycle Museum

Reviewed By antonette w - Appleton, Wisconsin

My husband and I both ride and have our own Harleys and when travelling across country we always pass this place, but never had time to stop. Finally we penciled it in to stop here with our 9 & 12 yr olds. Nice musuem and amazing how many different bikes are in here. Our favorite part was the Harleys and Celebrity bikes. Sort of wish they woud include a tad more of the "history" part, but aside from that, it is fascinating regardless! Loved the hill climbing video and display. I wonder why this isn't done anymore? Maybe it is? I enjoyed it, as did the kids! I knew there was a Groupon coupon available, but my phone was not having it. It was $10 for adult (over age 12) and I think under 12 is free. It might be nice if they offered a slightly reduced rate for the "older" kids, but it was still worth the $30 for us to see it. Look for a Groupon!! The guy running the booth seemed a little stiff and brash which I thought was a surprise since most "biker" people are way more laid back and not so stiff. :) LOL That's minor, he was nice, just a bit serious. Loved that they had LOTS of motorcycle parking (even though we had our cage - we still appreciate a good cycle-lot!)

Tri County Historical Society Red Faber Museum

Reviewed By Timmer304 - Kimberling City, Missouri

Red Faber was a hall-of-fame pitcher from Cascade Iowa who pitched for the Chicago White Sox. Charlie Comiskey frequently brought the team to Dubuque to play at the old ball grounds down along the Mississippi River. The museum is filled with memorabilia from Red's playing days and is a true delight for any baseball enthusiast. Within the glass enclosed cases are many artifacts of interest; yes, even an old painted brick donated by this reviewer from Comiskey Park. In sorting through my pictures I was thrilled to find one that is almost identical to that located on their website. If you love baseball history then you will thoroughly enjoy this attraction. I am glad to offer this initial review for TripAdvisor.

Pictured Rocks County Park

Reviewed By Daniel B - Cedar Rapids

This park features over 1993 acres. Offered is primitive campsites; pit toilets; picnics; hiking; stream fishing; boating and hunting where permitted. The trails here are well marked and maintained. The cave system is by far one of the better ones I have seen. Outside there is a detailed map of where it starts/finishes and what to expect once you get inside as well as what type of equipment to bring. Very detailed-oriented here. This is a must-see for all you spelunkers out there! There is no cost to this park. Climbing is expected and well thought out trails.
The scenery is typical of Iowa: woods/trees; trails, near the winding Maquoketa river and awesome views here. I can only imagine what this place looks like in the fall. This park is right next to Camp Courageous. Plenty of parking is available.

Edinburgh Manor

Reviewed By mysterynana - Taylor Ridge, Illinois

We set out on a Labor Day tour of different abandoned and haunted places in Iowa. This was our first stop. We were fortunate to get there just in time for a tour that was starting. The owner of the Manor was our guide. She had many interesting stories about the history of the place and also the numerous encounters people have had. The Manor was featured on the Travel Channel's "Ghost Adventures". Although we were not privilidged to have and encounter, I did get chilled and goose bumps in different areas of the manor. The creepiest place was the basement. Would recommend but you might want to contact the owner for the tour hours. They do have a facebook page.

Anamosa State Penetentiary Museum

Reviewed By areview28 - Silver Spring, Maryland

This is a small museum next to an architectural marvel, a prison built over a period of 70 years by inmates using stone from local quarries. The museum staff were helpful and walked us through the exhibits answering questions about the history of the Anamosa State Penitentiary, day-to-day prison life, and famous criminals who did time there. Definitely worth the small admission charge and highly recommended.
