The New Forest National Park is truly unique. It’s a ‘world capital’ for wildlife with a huge diversity of rare plants and animals– one of the reasons why it was made a National Park in 2005. A place of outstanding natural beauty, the unique landscape is shaped by the grazing of ponies, cattle and pigs that roam freely. These animals may appear wild, but they are owned by people called commoners. One of the last places in southern England to offer a sense of wildness and tranquillity, it’s a wonderful area to explore on foot, horseback, or by bike. Indeed William the Conqueror, who set aside the ‘New Forest’ for hunting more than 900 years ago, would probably recognise much of it today.

We visited especially to see the hawfinches. The blackwater arboretum is where we found them. Great views. The parking facilities are excellent and so is the walk around the arboretum and tall trees marked route. Brilliant.

There is a viewing platform for deer. Picturesque forest and national park for the family. Very picturesque and ponies wonder around. It was very busy Easter Weekend but still and enjoyable day out, getting back to nature.

This is the third time I have visited the deer sanctuary. The walking routes are clearly posted so you won’t get lost. I love the scent of the trees just after the rain too, nothing quite compares! Unfortunately, on this visit the deers were hiding but we will definitely visit again in the future!

We popped into the reptile centre one morning. Kids loved spotting the reptiles and frogs. Then we did the nature walk which was very pleasant. It could be a bit hit and miss to whether you see all the reptiles and is probably best on a sunny day. We really enjoyed it. Dont expect to be there for hours but if you are passing its definitely worth popping in.

She is buried behind this church and her grave is really worth your visit. Her name is Mrs Reginald HARGREAVES and she never wanted to be remembered by her real female name. The church is a "Wonderland" as well!

An actively managed area of woodland just south of Lyndhurst in the New Forest. A number of rides have been opened up by volunteers from Pondhead Conservation Trust enabling people to walk around and explore the inclosure. Traditional coppicing is carried out to improve the habitat, wild flowers such as violets and especially bluebells have benefitted which in turn attract woodland butterflies. A pleasant walk at any time of year, but Spring is highly recommended.

The recreation ground is used for Junior football at times. There is a pretty good skate ramp, and a playground area suitable for younger children with quite a good assortment of equipment. The area is surrounded by mature trees, and is a pleasant green space to spend some time with children
