6 Things to do Adventurous in Cheltenham That You Shouldn't Miss

November 27, 2021 Chanda Heide

Cheltenham was just your average, sleepy town until the discovery of a spring in 1716, after which it became Britain's most popular spa town. (Like Palm Springs without the casinos.) Local Cheltonians have a reputation for being wealthy and respectable, and a walk along the Promenade will give you a first-class view of their wonderful houses, shops and gardens. After taking in the waters at the Pittville Pump Room (great name for a spa), check out the Art Gallery and Museum to learn about the social history of Cheltenham.

Today was all about making treasured memories..... Thanks to Clare from Walks with hawks I was able to give my parents an experience I never thought possible. My mother is physically disabled with limited mobility and severe ataxia (uncontrollable shakes) Clare was so patient and kind to my mum and involved her completely and made her feel confident to fully participate. With mum's physical challenges this was truly magical to see. I was amazed to see mum completely at ease to hold all the birds, and have them fly to her, including the magnificent Hope, the blue Chilean Eagle. Dad was in awe and blown away by spectacular birds. The whole experience was fabulous from start to finish, Clare's knowledge and passion for her beautiful birds is infectious. Clare proved to be the most attentive guide with us all and adapted the experience so that we all could enjoy it to the full. 5 star service with memories that we will treasure forever

My son got a lesson as a generous birthday present from a family friend, and I was so jealous I booked one for myself the same day! Christina was our instructor, and helped me choose a "beginner" route from Glasgow to Belfast. I did the taxiing, the takeoff, the approach to Belfast and the landing, all in 45 minutes including a very thorough briefing. My son was less choosy (and more cheeky!) so Christina recommended a more "interesting" route - Innsbruck to Salzburg. As you can see in the pictures that meant a mountain to avoid on takeoff and a valley to fly through for the landing. Exciting and we did have to make one go-around but my son nailed the landing and declared it was "more fun than [he] expected it would be".

Prescott Speed Hill Climb

Prescott Hill Climb, based just outside of Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, is home to one of the world's most prestigious motor racing venues. Set in 60 acres of glorious Cotswold countryside, the estate not only provides a beautiful setting for a range of classic car and bike weekends, but also hosts major motor racing championships. The Bugatti Owners Club was established in 1929 for all motoring enthusiasts regardless of what type of vehicle you drive. The Club is based at Prescott and purchased the estate in 1937, converting the muddy, rutted drive into a speed hiil climb in time for the opening rally in April 1938. The 1127 yard course rises over 200 feet via short straights, fast and slow corners and a breathtaking hairpin, with the fastest modern racing cars completing the course in an exciting 36 seconds. The action can be viewed from strategic points along the course as well as from the restaurant terrace. Visitors and competitors alike can enjoy an exhilarating days racing plus vintage cavalcades up the Hill. Whether you are a competitor, a car or bike enthusiast or someone who just likes a day out in beautiful surroundings Prescott is the place for you.

Ian Coley Shooting School

Reviewed By andrewwQ290DE - Staines, United Kingdom

We visited Coleys yesterday, to look for a gun for Jan. The team could not have been more helpful. There was no pressure, no up selling, just solid and sound advice on gun fit & gun mount. Jan tried over half a dozen guns - ending with a Beretta 686 grade 5 game gun 12 bore with 28 inch barrels, about a pound lighter than her B725. They gave a very fair price on the trade in of the Browning. Jan then tested the Beretta - about 40 clays which were included gratis as part of the purchase of the gun. Once Jan had made her decision, we went round the sporting stands - 100 Clay's each, Jan shot with her new gun. The entire experiance was unhurried and without any pressure to buy. The team are fantastic, the grounds are very well laid out and in immaculate condition. We will be returning to shoot here again and also to buy guns in the future. Thank you Ian Coley - keep up the good work. Andrew & Jan
