St Andrews (Latin: S. Andrea(s); Scots: Saunt Aundraes; Scottish Gaelic: Cill Rìmhinn) is a town on the east coast of Fife in Scotland, 10 miles (16 km) southeast of Dundee and 30 miles (50 km) northeast of Edinburgh. The town is home to the University of St Andrews, the third oldest university in the English-speaking world and the oldest in Scotland. According to some rankings, it is ranked as the third best university in the United Kingdom, behind Oxbridge. The University is an integral part of the burgh and during term time students make up approximately one third of the town's population. St Andrews has a population of 16,800 (in 2012).

Nauldy has just given an excellent review so I will not repeat the accurate content. It is a brilliant museum and so quaint and chocolate box pretty from the outside that you cannot fail to be drawn in. The social history inside is great. Some things from my early childhood are there so a real nostalgia trip as well as interesting local history. I was drawn in to see the garden. Thinking it would be tiny I was amazed to find a relatively large, compartmentalised garden. Just wonderful in this urban area. Plenty of history, loved the blacksmith are and the laundry room. A modern twist has been added with a sensory garden. Do visit. Our time here was enhanced by the lovely volunteers and talking to the garden convenes, whose enthusiasm was infectious. A donation in the box would be appreciated too.

The Museum of the University of St Andrews (MUSA) is a free museum displaying some of the amazing treasures from the University's collection of over 112,000 artefacts. The Museum is located on the Scores in St Andrews and is home to St Salvator's Mace, which is still used in Graduation and Welcome ceremonies to this day. The museum has four galleries, a 'Learning Loft' and a viewing terrace with stunning panoramic views over St Andrews Bay. MUSA is family friendly and its galleries feature a number of fun hands-on interactives as well as an art cart which is full of creative activities for children from dressing up to drawing. Free admission.

Worth a visit. Off the beaten track but easy to find. From shops down market st, cross main road and follow signs about 100 metres. Great history of St Andrews and upstairs a visiting exhibition and a children's activity room. Tea room also. Outside tennis, bowls and putting along with a park to enjoy.
