6 Nature & Parks in Levanto That You Shouldn't Miss

April 20, 2022 Nicolette Lion

Just north of Cinque Terre, Levanto is often used as a gateway to those less easily reached villages, but has much to offer on its own in the form of sand, sea and sights. Its great waves make Levanto very popular with surfers. Hikers love the surrounding hills, gorgeously covered in pine and olive trees. The town’s medieval castle is perfectly preserved, and several beautiful old churches are here. Many of Levanto’s most important buildings are centered on Piazza della Loggio, the town square.

excellent biking and hiking trail, car-free, therefore super safe. The view along the seaside is wonderful. Lots of tunnels, but all very clean and pleasant.

Levanto to Monterosso Trail

Reviewed By MichaelF710 - Hartford, United States

We stayed in Levanto for 2 nights so it made sense to hike the Levanto to Monterosso Trail. There is no fee. It was a vigorous exercise and took us 2 hrs 40 minutes including stops for rest, water and photos. The entrance is very easy to find and the trail is marked with red/white stripes on rocks and trees. It starts with a lot of steps and then a very steep incline and has a mix of smooth paths, rocky paths and stone steps along the way- multiple inclines followed by multiple declines. We enjoyed the part off the trail that passes through the wooded areas where the temperature was noticeably cooler. There are beautiful views of the Ligurian Sea and a great view of Monterosso from the high point near S. Antonio del Mesco (ruins of an old church). The church is a very short walk to the right of the signs and is nothing spectacular but it is a great spot for photos. We had lunch at a nice little place in the old part of Monterosso and then hopped on the train to visit 2 of the other towns before returning to Levanto. The train is €4 per ride to any town or €16 for a day pass. A previous reviewer said you can see all 5 towns in Cinque Terre from this trail but I don't agree with that statement. You must be in very good physical shape to enjoy this hike!

Wonderful beach to walk or swim or just sit and watch the sea! We strolled along the beach and talked to the locals. Very relaxing.
