Great hike around the mountain and fortress to the top with incredible views. About 8 kilometers! We met a bunch of friendly cats near the top!

Well worth the effort to get to the top of the weather is clear. We trekked up the road using Google Maps. When he headed down, we used the easier walking path with steps and landings and beautiful plants and flowers that ended in the botanical gardens (Duke of Terceira’s Garden).

The view of the Island from this viewing platform is amazing. From here you can see several dairy farms and may pastures. it is so green. Hint it was very windy/cool on the platform - wear a light weight jacket or sweater.

It is very easy to reach the top despite the great altitude (a bit more than 1000 m). Views are amazing. Beware of the fog and so please go in a sunny day and a oye early or late in the day

We decided to take a leisurely drive along the coastal road instead of the main highway and were pleasantly surprised at the incredible views along the way including a stop here at the viewpoint for photos. The locals have done an amazing job for tourists to have these situated along the ocean to see Split Rock, Goat Island and many different natural swimming places up close. This road also gives you the opportunity to travel through many interesting towns and villages with local shops along the way.
