Triumph under pressure

The hotel room was spotless and the bed was comfy. We could hear surprisingly little noise given the festival that was on. Breakfast was great but it was at dinner that I was most impressed. Eden and Oliver in particular worked tirelessly in a mobbed dining room and never let their smiles slip in front of customers. Considering how busy the place was, we didn’t have to wait long for food. My one tiny criticism would be to ask for more blue cheese in my chicken sauce please. Otherwise this place was exemplary!

Lovely stay

Stayed last night with our dog, we’re made very welcome from the start. Lovely large twin room (3) clean and comfortable. Very nice curry for tea and a large and tasty breakfast. We were made to feel very welcome by all the staff and a young man even suggested we ate our breakfast in a separate room where there was more room for the dog. Location is great and we had no problem parking outside for free. Barnard Castle is a lovely town with plenty of pubs and cafes and some great walks.

Good value - Superb breakfast

Reviewed By TheHonestReview67116

Stayed one night, wish it could have been longer, in a prime location for the Yorkshire Dales and Teesdale. Great value - clean, decent sized room set in a lovely area. Breakfast was superb, lots of choice from black pudding, sausages, fried bread, eggs, bacon, mushroom, tomato, really nice breakfast room. Surrounded by pleasant farmland, not far from the A66 and ideal base for Swaledale and Teesdale and further afield like Durham. Very welcoming host, home made scones and biscuits were lovely, as well as bottled water. If you want a good value Farm B&B then this is as good as it gets.

What a fantastic ( dog and human friendly) pub

Reviewed By 813dawng

Came in for a drink with 2 Jack Russell Terriers. Bar staff made us feel very welcome. Pointed out an available table into the rear of the pub or a table in the bay window with the locals . Sat in the cosy bay. Chatted to really friendly and humorous locals who made us and our dogs feel really welcome. Great start to our visit. Thank you ?

DO NOT GO HERE WITH YOUR DOG!!

Reviewed By B4582ICjoshh

So me, my dad and another guy are all working away from home doing some renovations to a town house, my dad was already sat at the bar waiting for me and the other guy to turn up to meet there for a drink. This pub is advertised as dog friendly, (to the point it says it in the window) and the owners too have a dog... here lies the problem. The second I entered the premises with my 3 year old Cocker Spaniel, this half Staffy, half whippet looking dog (big and itimidating at the side of my dog) got all in my dogs face and when she backed away the owners dog got SUPER aggressive and started aggressively snarling, chasing her down and bit her making her yelp louder than ive ever heard before. The dig was not stopping despite me shouting loud as possible to get it away from my dog and it got to the point I had to intervene and pick her up by her harness that she was wearing (thank god she was too) and place her onto a table in the pub, the staffy continued attempting to get to her even when she was up on the table!!! All the while the owner was nowhere to be seen and then finally came out at the end of it all, asked 'what's going on'? To which one of his customers replied 'your dogs just attacked his dog', while I checked over my dog for blood and puncture wounds I was furious and had a million things I wanted to say, but thought it wise to leave IMMEDIATELY before anything escalated. THIS IS THE VERY ANNOYING & UNBELIEVABLE PART... I mentioned earlier that my dad was already sat in this pub at the bar, so after all this had happened, I left to get her away from what definitely shouldn't be a free roaming dog in a public place, let alone a business. My dad had caught up to me walking up the road and said, 'You won't believe what he said.. when you left, the locals were talking amongst themselves and the owner said "Well he shouldn't be bringing his F**King dog in here anyway should he....' My dad questioned him on this and said that he had already told him once before that their dog( the staffy) usually stays behind the bar because it doesn't like other dogs, the man had no answer and didn't know what to say. We moved on and when in the next place we went to saw a couple who witnessed the whole thing who also had their dog with them, they told me they had too left the pub because of hiw terribly the situation had been handled, my dog bitten and yelping and not so much as an apolgoy from the bar owners??? Not only was there no apology, but to leave without saying anything and then be spoken about behind your back saying that i shouldn't take my dog into 'what's advertised' as a dog friendly place ... ARE YOU SERIOUS!?!?!? Needless to say, I would never return here if it was my last and only option. Your dog IS NOT OK TO BE OUT AMONG THE GENERAL POPULATION WHEN IT ATTACKS OTHER DOGS YOU IRRESPONSIBLE D*** HEAD!!
