6 Historical & Heritage Tours in Rothenburg That You Shouldn't Miss

February 16, 2022 Trinity Boughner

Walk atop Rothenburg’s city walls or climb to the top of the town hall for great views. The Night Watchman tour is an unforgettable way to learn the city’s history. And our travelers also recommend the Medieval Crime Museum (Mittelalterliches Kriminalmuseum)—it’s gruesome but fascinating.

Wonderful tour by a knowledgeable guide before the castle tour! He had obviously done his research and was able to add more, and more historically accurate, details. Lots of "fun" facts, too (I had no idea what BMW stood for or why the logo looks looks like it does. I do now!). He knows all the best spots for pictures and the best times to get them in before the next tour groups arrive. Skipping the line for the castle tour tickets was a real plus. Highly recommend!

Our host in Rothenburg organised this tour for us. This is a fantastic introduction to the city in a different and fun and musical way. Amelia (the Lady who conducts the tour) is an amazing individual. She will inspire you, with her music, with her love for the city and with her sense of humour, during this tour. Even at 7 degrees temp, mild rain and a very empty city, Amelia completed the entire tour just the way she does it around the year. She truly is an artist!

Great day trip from Munich. I always wondered why so many fairy tales originate from Germany. Well, all those castles answer the questions.

Martin Luther is NOT the same historical figure as MARTIN LUTHER KING Jr. Germany is not the same nation as the US. Martin Luther was the great GERMAN reformer of the 1500s. Martin Luther King Jr. was the great civil rights American reformer of the 1960s. I keep trying to help this organization, but they don't seem to worry about trivia like historical facts.

Relaxed yet full of life and passion for his craft, his subject and his niche, Kevin is 'The Picasso' of tour guiding in Germany. I learned so much about details and points of view, you'll never read in a book, or notice in a photo. It's great to learn from someone who makes a difference to the way we look at life, and shows that we should and can learn from history. Thanks for an awesome day Kevin.
