You will drive by St. Koloman or Coloman's church on your way to Neuschwanstein. I'd encourage you to pull of, get out of your car and take a few pictures. You will be joined by weddings and others but early am offers less of a crowd. The valley surrounding the church is almost as spectacular as the mountains and castles.

This is a small serene lake just off the road from Fussen to Hohenschwangau (about a mile from Hohenschwangau). Fortunately my hotel was on the same road near the path leading to the lake. Just a leisurely 15 minute walk on flat terrain, this walk is refreshing for most any age. The lake was quiet that late afternoon that I took my stroll. Not many tourist go here so that's a treat in itself.
