At the rear of the Basillica a lovely statue of St Stephen first King of Hungary 1001. Surprisingly impressive statue and we'll worth a visit to take in the view over the Danube and back to the castle.

Bokod Floating Village

Reviewed By RoulaKonstantopoulou - Athens, Greece

An amazing floating village 80 km northwest of the capital (one and a half hours by train) to the lake bordered by two villages, Bokod on the west side and Oroszlany to the east. The eerie, picturesque village on the lake - popular with locals and everyday landscape photographers - with the wooden huts that are inhabited in the summer by fishermen, fascinates you at first glance. And it proves that Hungary has much more to offer than the beautiful capital of the Danube. A sight that reminded me of South East Asia and West Africa. The village consists mainly of small houses, which are built on piles and platforms and are connected to the land and to each other with boardwalks. The dawn and sunset colors create a magical scenery. The only clash in the idyllic atmosphere of the nearby nuclear power plant. But even this has an advantage, since the water of the lake is never freezing, despite the cold Hungarian winter. When you are in Budapest, It is worth visiting beyond the usual - route for pictures and feelings. It is so near.
