Making this boattrip was a lovely combination of resting with a cup of tea and enjoying the surroudings meanwhile.

Nationaal Tinnen Figurenmuseum

Located in the heart of Ommen and in walking distance from the Train Station, the tin figure museum is very convenient for public transport, cyclists, and car drivers alike. In fact, the site has its own very small car park for visitors, and is also adjacent to two much larger car parks, although those have a 2-hour maximum parking limit. Being open Tuesday to Saturday, 11:00am to 17:00 pm, the museum is always closed Monday & Sunday, so do plan your visit to Ommen to ensure you don’t miss out, it really is one of the best places to visit in Ommen. Not only do you learn all about tin figure making and the painting of them, but also the history of the surrounding area and even the traditional dress of locals. I thoroughly enjoyed looking around at the exhibits and the small museum is actually much larger than it appears from outside. In terms of flaws, the museum is not set up for foreign visitors, therefore everything is labeled, and all descriptions are printed, in Dutch only. But do not let this put you off, the staff are most helpful. In additional to an informational leaflet (in Dutch only) you receive a picture of a mural that features on the walls of the entrance hall, children who spot the differences receive a prize at the end of their visit (well worth doing, so do spend the time looking, there are ten to spot). There is no restaurant inside the museum, but has a Bistro on the side of the building, and many other excellent places to eat nearby. There is however a museum shop inside and the prices for a memento were very reasonable. The toilet facilities here are also excellent, being stylish and immaculately clean. I did not check Wi-Fi as I was too fascinated by the figures and diorama displays, which is high praise. Not suitable for very young children, however my 8-year-old thought it superb, and was very pleased to see steps in front of each display, so he could get a proper look without needing to be lifted up. We spent a good hour and forty-five minutes here and we all thoroughly enjoyed our visit, had we understood Dutch, watched all the videos (in Dutch) and read all the material (in Dutch), then we could have easily have spent a few more hours here. Loved it!
