Great to see the auditorium packed to capacity for an amazing evening of musical theatre relayed to cinemas around the country. The cinematography provided cinema goers with close ups of the performers which theatre goers wouldn't benefit from. A first class production within walking distance from home.

Pocklington’s unique Gardens have justifiably been called “a jewel in Yorkshire’s crown” and are home to a National Collection of over 100 varieties of Hardy Water Lilies which bloom on the Upper and Lower lakes between June and August. The lakes, which contain Carp and Roach that can be hand fed, are set in nine acres of woodland and gardens. There are walkways around both lakes, an ornamental bridge, a Victorian Garden, an Aviary, a newly re-planted Rock Garden, and a Stumpery, the latter being the most recent addition to the Gardens. Events include an annual Tulip Festival, Sunday brass band concerts, and children’s events held throughout the spring and summer. The Stewart Museum houses artefacts which belonged to Major Percy Stewart, an adventurer and traveller, who lived at Burnby Hall between 1901 and 1962, and who made eight world tours between 1906 and 1926. A cafe, gift shop and playground are situated on the site. All facilities are wheelchair and pushchair friendly.

Burnby Hall Gardens this is an amazing gardens they have planted Water Lilies but some have slightly been eaten by the large Koi Carp Fish and you can by a cup of fish food to feed the fish but must be careful there are allot of them, the lake is massive and the gardens are fantastic a new Rock garden that's just great a small aviary which again the children love and a kids play area there is so much to see and weekends there is entertainment. this is one place that's a must. Visitors, Travellers. Walkers and Hikers will enjoy . there is a great Restaurant and Toilets so yes come along and enjoy there are lots of tables for you all to picnic

This idyllic rural waterway was once derelict, and nearly became a dumping ground for industrial waste. It was saved by the work of energetic local volunteers and campaigners and is now one of the country’s best canals for nature, and home to three Sites of Special Scientific Interest. We’re focusing on the upper reaches between Melbourne and Canal Head, which is not currently accessible by boat, but the towpath is open to walkers, and is a great place for spotting the wildlife and plants that thrive along the canal. The canal architecture also adds interest to the scenery, with distinctive swing bridges, classic hump-backed bridges and restored and unrestored locks. It’s a fantastic place to take the kids, have a picnic and travel west out of Melbourne on a trip boat to see the area from a totally different perspective.

We visited the partially restored canal head for the first time after visiting the nearby Burnby Hall Gardens. We brought our picnic. There are 2 small car parking areas and also grass verges to park on. There were lots of cars parked but not many people around. Perhaps they were walking the 4.5 miles along the towpath from Top Lock? There were lots of benches to sit on overlooking the canal and also picnic tables on the grass so a perfect site for a picnic. There is also an amazing horse sculpture. There are information boards dotted about relating to history of the lock and the canal. There is a beautiful house adjacent to the water which is a converted warehouse originating from when it was a working canal. Don’t miss the memorial stone to the crew of a Lancaster bomber who lost their lives when it crashed on the site in 1943. We will definitely return to do the towpath walk in the near future. There are lots of bridges and locks and permanent moorings to view along the route.

The Black Bull in Pocklington offers great beer, great food and great service in a relaxed environment. We have a fantastic beer garden and decked area for those summer days and a Lounge, Snug and Games room indoors. We also have both Sky and BT sports. Food is served 12.00pm to 8.00pm Monday to Saturday and 12.00pm until 6.00pm on Sundays.

Never been to pocklington, was interested in what was happening to the canal. The town was very nice with some nice shops. We called at the black bull pub for lunch and we we really enjoyed it. We had the best steak pie ever the staff were excellent will return .
