Strolling, shopping, and sipping tequila along the Malecon boardwalk of Puerto Vallarta is the best way to kick off your vacation. Then hit the cobblestone streets of Old Vallarta to browse the flea market for handmade crafts. The calm, warm waters of the Bay of Banderas make for excellent diving, or you can just watch artists sculpt spectacular creations in the sand. The cluster of fine art galleries in El Centro are perfect spots to hit on a self-guided art tour.

Liverpool

We stay several months of the winter and visit randomly our place in PV and this time we were there for what is the equivalent to our "Black Friday" sales. We needed a new TV for our condo and so we were on a mission to find the "best price"! We looked in Liverpool, which is a great department store with nice quality clothing for all and great Household goods and appliances. The Mall itself has many boutique stores, a Food Court and a Movie Theater. I believe it even has a Casino on the lower level, but we have never been there. There is an in door parking area and it is a great place to go on a rainy day or a day to get out of the summer heat. It is clean and beautifully decorated and has something for everyone. I think it is one of the stops for the Cruise ships that come in across the street at the Marina.

For all the years we have been visiting Puerto Vallarta I only got around to see "La Isla Shopping Village " on this last trip. Wow! Somebody went crazy with the expenses and the architect a bit more crazy designing. There are these enormous tulips-like sculptures at the entrance, an underground parking, elevators and escalators, tiled sidewalks, koi ponds, turtle ponds with sculptured turtles/ working fountains. another pond for no reason and some coins, a water fall, a lot of decorations in landscaped areas, like birds from sticks and so many more expensive items in common areas....overdone....and many stores that are NOT doing well. There was a clearance of a clothing store. We could tell must of the stores if not all were not even making money for the rent. I am sure the rent is very high. There were not really good restaurants, we were there at lunch time and we made our way to Galerías Shopping Mall next to Liverpool since there was only a subway ( I do like them but as an emergency food in Canada, not on a holiday) and a Starbucks, we do not drink coffee. There was a ice cream stand and a snacks bar. Not a real restaurant...It was sad to see the how this idea has made many people loose money. We are builders and can appreciate all that was around us...I think that if instead of stores they would attract restaurants...the entire mall would do better. They have the parking, they have all those common areas, escalators, elevators etc....I thought it was a great place for a nice meal... I was looking for a nice pair of walking sandals, I do not remember the name of the shoe store but for something very ordinary and not that attractive they asked over $180 Canadian Dollars. I do wear good comfortable shoes like Easy Spirit, Naturalizer, Clarks, Flexi, but those were not great, looked cheap... and way overpriced.
