5 Railways in Northern Portugal That You Shouldn't Miss

May 6, 2022 Vergie Nakamoto

Brimming with both history and natural wonder, Northern Portugal is home to Porto, the city that gave the country its name, as well as the important ancient town of Braga. Also here is Peneda-Gerês, Portugal’s only national park, a gorgeous wilderness area of mountains, gorges, water features and wildlife. Many picturesque villages and manor houses dot the countryside. Two areas are UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the Alto Douro Wine Region, and the Paleolithic rock art in the Côa Valley.

We Went to Sao Bento to enquire about trains tickets to Lisbon & spent quite a bit of time taking photos of the magnificent ceramic tiles in the entrance which are extraordinary & informative of Portugals history. Museu Nacional Ferroviario

This small but nice Museum has being founded in the year 1981, and is located on the second railway station “Ramal de Sernada a Aveiro” which is on the line of “Vale do Vouga” is into the old adapted hangar to this effect. You follow the indications of your Gps. And then follow the Road Signs who are indicating the Museum. You have enough place to park the car in front of the station. At the reception you will find “Dona Diana” a very friendly and more than helpful member of the staff. She will explain you everything what you need to know, and when you ask her, she will give you some leaflets from everything which is interesting to see in the city of Agueda. She is very simpatico and does everything she can to help the visitor, if every staff member into a Museum was as friendly as she is, it would be a better publicity for the locations. With thanks to “Dona Diana” for the service, Hans & Lucy. Entrance fee is 2 € pro person. On the exposition you will be able to see and to take pictures of the following: Locomotiva E 97 (1913) - Locomotiva CN 7 (1904) - Locomotiva VV 22 (1925) - Locomotiva N 2 (1889) - Locomotiva CN 16 (1886) - Locomotiva VV 13 (1908) - Automotora ME 51-53 (1940/1) - Carruagem Cyfv 252 (1942) - Salão pagador SE 401 (1914) - Vagão 5398100 - Ambulância postal APeyf 23 (1954) - Furgão DFfv 255 (1899 ou 1908) - Locomotiva vapor PPF 16 - Vagão de bordas baixas 539802 - Dresine de inspecção fechada DIE 3 - Quadriciclo motorizado - Vagoneta (Zorra)
