5 Historic Sites in Yorkshire Dales National Park That You Shouldn't Miss

February 22, 2022 Yuk Petri

One visit to the Yorkshire Dales and it’s easy to understand why the unspoiled countryside is the setting of so many novels. Must-see sights among the land’s lush woodlands and expansive moors include Hardraw Force (the longest single-drop waterfall in the North), Gordale Scar, and well-known hill range, the Three Peaks. Less adventurous visitors can rest easy, walking through the manicured lawns of Parcevall Hall Gardens or appreciating Skipton Castle’s medieval architecture. Although some prefer to take in the land’s wild beauty by foot or horse, the most popular way is via one of the park’s famed cycling routes.

St Ostwalds Church

This is a typical Dales Church with an outstanding roof. Well worth your visit. Sadly TA will not allow my pictures of it.

Threshfield Quarry

We did a circular walk from the road near the quarry. It was around 5.5 miles and followed a loop we’d found online. The views from high up are amazing - we could see across to Pendle Hill and beyond. The walk was varied through fields, up hills, slight section on a bridal path. There is a small section about three quarters of the way around to stop for a picnic should you wish. With view across to Kilnsey. The quarry itself is stunning, that “lagoon” - just wow. Do not be tempted to go in for a swim, it’s highly dangerous. Just stand by the side and admire. If you do this walk, please respect the area. No litter or dog muck in sight and it’s good to try and keep it that way! A hidden gem
