Kanttila

Kanttila was the former home and shop of author Minna Canth. Kanttila is located in the center of Kuopio, only few minute walk away from the Kuopio Marketplace. We are celebrating Kanttila's 200-year-old history this summer with Kanttila 200 years -exhibition which consist of three parts: Kanttila's building history, Katri Suonio's environmental artwork "What did you learn at school today?", and Tiina Haring and Mirkka Nyrhinen's augmented reality photography exhibition "Palasina koko Nainen - viestejä näkymättömältä vyöhykkeeltä". Kanttila is going to be renovated as a cultural centre, with multifunctional spaces and community activities, as well as to an interesting cultural travel destination. Minna Canth (1844-1897) was a writer, journalist, businesswoman, and a forerunner in education and equality. Kanttila was a place where sophistication was defended and equality was advanced.
