Devil's Monument Loop Trail

Reviewed By chickandbeast - Southgate, Canada

We are lucky to live within an hour striking distance of some of the natural areas of beauty like the Bruce Trail and the Georgian Bluffs. Love Canada's 150 last year when a lot of these areas were free. Continued the tradition this year. We day trip all the time to local parks weather dependant. Devil's Monument is the largest frmation along the craggy rugged shore.

Lions Head Provincial Nature Reserve

Parked in the McCurdy Drive Parkette on Moore Street. There are 2 porta potties there. (Alternatively you can continue along Moore Street past the McCurdy Drive Parkette and park on the street at the start of the trailhead (Moore Street side trail). We walked along Moore Street (there are blue blaze markings along the way) to the trailhead. When you meet the Bruce Trail (white blaze markings) it is 2.5 km to Lion’s Head Lookout. The start of the Bruce Trail is where the trail becomes more challenging with rocks, tree roots, and up and down climbs. There are several lookouts prior to reaching Lion’s Head Lookout. Don’t stop at the first Lookout- this is not Lion’s Head. Keep following the Bruce trail as it meanders parallel with the coast. Access to each lookout is very obvious. You can continue on the Bruce Trail beyond the Lion’s Head Lookout but we turned back at that point. Took us 2 1/2 hours to do this round trip hike. It was a fabulous hike with gorgeous coastal views.

Lion's Head Lighthouse

A wonderful little lighthouse located at Lion's Head on the Bruce Peninsula in Ontario. It's the gateway to a municipal harbour, one of the deepest on Gerogian Bay. A peaceful place to relax in the summer and take in the crystal clear waters and magnificent cliffs just opposite the lighthouse. Winter is just as wonderful as the ice builds up on it and the stormy waves crash over the jetty. Well worth a stop in Lion's Head to see it.

This is a pretty little lighthouse that's been welcoming mariners to Lions Head Bay for many a year. It's a wooden structure painted red and white. Located at a marina that draws the crowds! Boat slips were full, people visiting this lighthouse and the beach, hiking along the trails/walkways. Many photographers present taking pictures of the beautiful scenery. The lighthouse with the Lions Head cliffs in the background and blue waters of Georgian Bay provide a delightful photo. Free, large parking lot. Store/bathrooms/benches/beach/walkway/boat ramps.
