The owner was very friendly. Being able to speak German got me a long way because he gave us a selection of schnapps to take away. His son in law is an fmr-Marine like myself so we started chatting and stayed for a few hours and got a bit tipsy.

Feldbergbahn

An excellent skiing area, especially for a beginner like myself. I was surprised that i was so nice, given that it is only the black forest not the alps. There are plenty of slopes but seems the majority are not too difficult, which was great for someone in my level. Actually, there were quite a lot of people learning how to ski. I was lucky with the weather that day and got to see some amazing views of the black forest. One important tip if coming here on the weekend is to get there early. Best to be there by 8:30 to 9:00 as the parking can get very crowded and traffic can get backed up. Some people in our group got stuck for an hour trying to park, since they arrived late.
