Oxford Canal

What a peaceful retreat! This area gives the term ‘tranquility’ a whole new meaning! A canal houseboat community in complete harmony with nature - absolutely wonderful! There’s a great footpath (tow path) along the canal and easy access to the many little bridges spanning the canal. I wonder how many visitors to Oxford actually experience this lovely place ... or do they immediately rush to the city centre to enjoy all the stunning historical architecture? Of all the places I’ve been to in the world, this section of the Oxford Canal is among the most beautiful. It’s very easy to reach: if heading into town from the train station, it’s that section of the canal that’s on the left.

Farmoor Reservoir

Reviewed By Charletonion

The reservoir is a great place to fish, walk and birdwatch. All the negative TripAdvisor reviews are from people be who could not be bothered to look this up and have brought either their cycles or their dogs, both of which are prohibited on the reservoir. There are, however, plenty of Thames side walks to be had. The paths are well maintained and litter free and there is a wealth of stunning scenery and wildlife. The reservoir itself is a lovely walk with lots of bird life, and there is a cafe with outside seating offering very well priced food and drink. The sailing club offers lessons and there is the option to paddle board.

Glebe Leisure caravan and Fishing Lakes

Touring Caravan site, grass and hard standing pitches mainly with electric and some with grey waste disposal and drinking water points. 4 Eco pods also available, non electric tenting area, 2 fishing lakes some with landing stages, a tree covered dog walk and 2 modern shower/toilet blocks. Car/caravan jet wash and coin operated laundry machines available.

Pitch sizes are generous to give plenty of social distancing space. Showers were powerful, hot and clean. There was a big party who kept themselves within their gazebos, it would have been better Organization to place them together, their music was off by the 11pm curfew. The dog walk is a good addition. My partner Jeff and I had a lovely weekend and really enjoyed a bank holiday camping trip.
