Decugnano dei Barbi

For over eight centuries "Decugnano" has been used to indicate the name of the land of the estate. The soil rich in fossils, oysters and shells, the micro climate and a wide temperature range are all factors particularly suitable for wine growing. Beside a very modern cellar, the visitor has the possibility to admire the Etruscan caves, today utilized for the production of the sparkling wine "spumante" and to mature certain wines in barrels. Within spectacular scenery, the Estate organizes guided tours to their cellars followed by wine tasting and local delicacies. WE ARE OPEN! Saturday & Sunday

Two couples (from well-regarded wine areas in California and Oregon) treated ourselves to the best winery tour and tasting/pairing we’ve experienced. Maurizio was our superb host and guide on a crisp, clear morning visit in late December. We arrived a few minutes late because our GPS tried to steer us the long/wrong way from Todi through Orvieto. If you’re heading there from the south, make sure your GPS is not confused. Maurizio knows his wines, and he proudly shares his devotion to Umbria. We’ve never encountered a place with an 800-year association to wine-making. It’s a perfect way to learn about crafting fine Umbrian wines, blended with history, culture, and spectacular scenery.

Wow! After you visit Paolo and his winery, you will leave feeling like family. They take such pride in their work and treat every guest with respect and great care. We visited Paolo just after quarantine ended in Italy. We arranged a tasting and lunch to take away. They organized the entire lunch and had it well packaged when we arrived. They also created a separate menu for a vegetarian couple in the group. We had such a wonderful experience that We will be back this fall (and hopefully many times after that) Everything from the home-cooked meal by his mother, the wine and the olive oil were fantastic and high quality. Thank you Paolo and family. A presto.

Castello Monte Vibiano Vecchio

From June 2010 there is one more reason to visit Umbria: Monte Vibiano's eco-tours are the key to discover the secrets of its worldwide-famous wines and olive oil while touring its spectacular estate in central Italy. All tours are conducted aboard electric vehicles around Monte Vibiano, the first 0 greenhouse-emissions farm in Italy. Visitors gather at the wine cellar in the valley and from here they board electric vehicles for a ride to the nearby hills and fields, across hectares of vineyards and olive groves. There is always something happening here, no matter the time of the year: from picking grapes for Monte Vibiano's refined red and whites, to hand-picking olives from century-old trees, the eco-tours are always a chance to observe exciting aspects of life in the fields. The highlight of the visit is a stop at 'vigna Lorenzo', a jaw-dropping vineyard extending for several hectares, a natural jewel that takes its name from that of Monte Vibiano's CEO, Lorenzo Fasola Bologna. From 'Vigna Lorenzo' visitors can see the historic Monte Vibiano castle towering over the valley: it is 2,000-year-old and currently the home of the Fasola Bologna family, owners of Monte Vibiano. With a descent to the valley, the electric vehicles return to the wine cellar and the brand new "Green Wine Bar", made of recycled materials. Here it is possible to taste Monte Vibiano's exquisite wines and bruschetta, seasoned with the company's signature frozen olive oil. The "Green Wine Bar" is inspired by Monte Vibiano's ecological mission and designed by Monte Carlo designer Maryam Fasola Bologna with old woods and hundreds of unused corks.

I can't recommend this experience enough. My boyfriend and I were lucky enough to be the only two people on the tour as October is the start of the low season. Desy led the tour and took us to visit the vineyard "Vigna Lorenzo" were she told us the story of the family. After that, we visited the wine making facilities and we had our tasting were we managed to meet Maria Camilla, one of the owner of Castello Monte Vibiano. Desy was entertaining, kind and knowledgeable. The family is really lucky to have her on board. The scenery is beautiful. The food was great and the wine and olive oil was a special treat! The all experience was amazing! We look forward to receiving the wine we bought so we can enjoy the Maria Camilla, the San Giovanni and the Andrea throughout winter in London to remind us of this beautiful autumn day.

Three generations of the Bartoloni family have contributed to the construction of the winery; grandfather Paolo who has dedicated his life to agriculture and moreover has always specialised in vine growing; his son Giovanni who had the courage to believe in the investment necessary to realise one of the most modern wineries in the area; and grandson Paolo who with his degree in agricultural studies will dedicate the rest of his life to wine production.

From first contact to departure, Irene, the sommelier did a fantastic job both conveying her passion for Umbrian wine and in particular the wines from the Berioli organic farm and her pride in her region. She was informative, attentive, an excellent communicator and very professional. I also enjoyed meeting the owner Roberto who spoke passionately about his farm's path on organic viticulture and why he loves his job. They make a great team and I would recommend this tasting to wine lovers of all nationalities. Their range of wines were all excellent, I particularly enjoyed the Vercanto 2018 100% oak aged grechetto, and the 2018 Topporosso red blend. I came home with a bottle of everything and will return again. Their extra virgin 100% dolce agogia extra virgin olive oil was delicious and the antipasti selection the perfect accompaniment to the tasting.

We were a couple + two 18 year olds. We had a wonderful wine tasting in air-conditioning as it was too hot outside. Filippo was an excellent host whose English was perfect. He explained the history & wine making process of the family vineyard & wines. The location is stunning. Filippo made us feel welcome & we thought that COVID-19 was well addressed. There was a great variety of wines that were served with fresh focaccia & chocolate. We tasted 4 wines & look forward to enjoying a few boxes that we purchased when we get home. We even ordered one of Filippo’s “every day” wines at a restaurant in Todi. It was a great wine tasting for the adults & a great introduction for the 18 year olds. We will be back! Thanks Filippo for a wonderful afternoon.
