You might begin in Lexington, where the 1200-acre Kentucky Horse Park is a popular attraction. The university adds exciting sports, impressive art and a vibrant student/professor population to the city. Louisville is similar, where renowned Churchill Downs hosts the annual Kentucky Derby and the Belle of Louisville, the nation’s oldest steam-driven river paddlewheeler, hosts enchanting lunch and dinner cruises along the beautiful Ohio River. Next, head south to visit Mammoth Cave National Park for a day of touring the cave (the world’s longest known cave), hiking and canoeing on the Green River. Paducah, Berea, Bowling Green – so many places to explore and enjoy!

Wight - Meyer Vineyard & Winery

Reviewed By knucklebusted - Bowling Green, United States

Driving back from Louisville to Bowling Green, my wife and I decided to stop at a few wineries we had noted along our route. This was the second one and it isn't too far off the Interstate but it is on a road that ends in gravel thogh well maintained. We arrived a little after 1:00 PM and the nice lady, one of the owners and her dog, were there for our tasting. At the time, we were the only people there. She was very knowledgeable and we did a six-wine tasting. My wife likes sweet wines and I tried a mix. I tried one my wife didn't pick that tasted like a cherry cordial. The owner gave me a Hershey's kiss and told me to eat it and take a drink. It tasted just like a cherry cordial candy. We wound up purchasing four bottles of wine, all fruity and sweet though they do have a selection of dry and semi-sweet wines. My wife liked the Diamond types. Well worth the trek if you are looking for something to do while traveling the northern Kentucky stretch of I-65.

I had heard of this winery before but never visited. As we were on our way to Metropolis we decided to stop and am I ever so glad we did!!!. This place was great, the staff was very welcoming, knowledgeable and engaging. The amount of different wines was unmatched compared to the many other wineries I have visited. I had recently stocked up on wine at the Tennessee wine festival but that didn't stop me from coming with 7 bottles from here. I am already planning a day trip with my girlfriends as part of my birthday celebration next month. It didn't hurt any that we caught them while having the customer appreciation sale of 20% off.

Our Sunday afternoon wine tasting at Rising Son's Winery was the most personal, informative, and friendly experience we've ever had and we've been to wineries in California, North Carolina, Indiana, Tennessee, and Kentucky. For $10 we tasted 6 wines accompanied by locally made cheeses, chocolate, and jellies. Our tasting was led by the owner, Francine. Wines range from dry to dessert wines, but we prefer semi-sweet to sweet. In addition to the delicious wines, we were offered a taste of several Sangrias along with a printout of the recipes. Our favorites were Diamond Girl, Wild Wilbur's Hog Heaven, (named after the owner's pet pig), and Raspberry Dessert Wine. We brought home a bottle of each along with a yummy wine cheese spread! It is definitely worth the trip to visit Rising Son's Winery! This place is a gem!

We have been making wines since 1980. We decided to start our own vineyard in 2000. Thirty varieties of grapes were initially planted and over the last 20 years we have narrowed it down to varieties that grow well in our area and represent Kentucky style wine. Instead of concord grapes we planted Jupiter and Mars to make an “Out of This World” table wine. The time listing shows 11:00-5:00 Tue, Fr, Sat. Our hours are really flexible and we recommend calling ahead for a tasting/tour time.

Wildside Winery

Owners Neil and Rachel bought a beautiful 30 acre farm near Versailles, Kentucky in Woodford County in 1997 and began planting grapes, berries, apples, and peaches in 1998. They named the farm Wildside Farm because of the wild sunflowers and coneflowers that grew in abundance. In addition, the name fit because the farm was initially certified organic until they learned that a minimum of amount of pesticides was needed to keep the fruits healthy. They still use minimal pesticides. Each year they planted more grapes until today they have 5 acres of grapes, two acres of fruit trees and 1.5 acres of berries.Welcome to Wildside Winery your winery near Lexington Kentucky, the airport, and Keeneland racetrack!
