Surrounded by one of Germany's largest wine-growing regions, Stuttgart beckons cultural junkies with its acclaimed ballet, opera and philharmonic, while auto fans get revved up over the Mercedes Benz Museum. There's more green space than urban sprawl in the festival-friendly city, home to Europe's largest zoo and botanic garden combo, the Wilhelma. The WŸrttembergisches Landesmuseum, in one of the city's oldest structures, traces area history from the Stone Age. Buses or subway provide handy transport.

When I was in the Army, I lived near Stuttgart for over six years back in the 80's. I thought I knew the city and had been everywhere. But, I learned more about the city and the area during this tour than I did in all of the time I had lived here. The tour offered all this at a very reasonable price. I think it a shame that Stuttgart is too often ignored as a tourist site in Germany. As with so many German Speaking areas, you can find castles and palaces in the area. The tour can direct you to these. But, this is an area dominated by the auto industry and various high tech firms. But, it is also the center of the wine production area of Germany. Don't pass on any opportunity to visit, and if you have only a day to do so, take this tour to get the most out of your experience.
