One of the best places we have stayed at. Beautiful 3 bedrooms villas. Large and very clean pool. The staff of 3 is excellent. Villa cleaned everyday. Pleasant staff always smiling and ready to help. 10 minute walk to beach. Or 10-20 minutes by taxi to various other beaches at a minimal cost. A must visit when in Tangolunda (Huatulco)

WORST hotel experience of my life

Reviewed By Rakshi

Six cabanas on a hill overlooking the ocean. No onsite management, just a surly caretaker. We had booked 2 nights on Expedia. We liked Mazunte and wanted to stay one more night. Our cabana was available online but we could not book it because of a 2-night minimum. So we asked the caretaker. He checked, and told us okay. We returned from the beach after sunset in wet swimsuits, looking forward to a shower, to relax, and then go to dinner. Instead, we found that the caretaker had crammed all our things into our suitcases and removed them from the room, and he was barring the door! He said it was rented to someone else. I suspect he failed to note it as occupied, and someone else booked it online. We had a very difficult time finding another room because the town was completely full. My companion searched online while I tramped the neighborhood. I finally found something by sheer persistence - I returned to a place that had already turned me down and they dug up a little room they don’t usually rent. And you can bet the surly caretaker did not help carry our suitcases down the 135 steps to the street. AVOID this hotel!

Well located apartments with excellent parking

Reviewed By fls35

Villas de Alcala are situated just one block south of the main road that encircles the Centro Historico - making it very easy to drive to the villages in the central valley. There are about 8 one and two bedroom apartments, very colorfully painted, arranged around a pretty garden and ample parking areas. Interiors were well furnished and were cleaned daily. Kitchen had a large fridge, microwave, coffeemaker and a two burner stove. Surprisingly, there were no pots or pans - only 4 each mugs, plates, bowls, knives, forks, spoons. We were given just one key for the exterior door to the complex and one opener for the sliding vehicle door - a bit of a problem for 4 guests with different schedules since housekeeper is on site 9 to 5 only. We were travelling throughout Mexico by car and this location was excellent - close enough to walk to the Zocalo yet just one block to reach the main highway. The Villas are owned/operated by Hotel Abu in central Oaxaca. We were there during Muertos week and price was about $110/day for a two bedroom apartment - price is substantially lower at other times.

Great view and wonderful staff

Reviewed By jeffbR6633GQ

We really enjoyed this property. Staff were wonderful and the restaurant below. Views and Access to beach are Unbeatable. Kitchenette was very limited, one frying pan, no stove, no pots. Also 3 hangers in the room so I bought 10 and left them there. Patio doors are so hot between 7am and 1pm you can’t open blinds really. But perfect around 2pm onward. Only major problem I had was people hung out and sang and played music on the Beach until 1-2am and I could hear them through the patio door. Didn’t get much of a sleep at all. And that was continuous for 15 nights. Some people could sleep through it I’m sure but I’m a light sleeper. But much thanks to the wonderful staff who took very good care of us. Also he aware some rooms have a separate bedroom some do not, some have a smaller fridge some full with a bigger freezer. Both fridge sizes do hold a bag of ice in the freezer portion.

Drunk, high and not caring host!

Reviewed By Patricia C

The facilities and the house itself look like the pictures, however, the common areas need more maintenance. There are mice in the kitchen at night, the garden is messy, the pool is full of bugs, the rooftop is dusty most of the time. I understand that most of the areas are outdoor but as a host, you should try to control these facts as much you can and show that you care about giving a comfortable experience which wasn´t the case. We stay there for 3 weeks, the first week was through Airbnb and it was average because the host really wanted a good review, after that we got a private arrangement and then everything switches down. The host was drunk and high all day around the house, several times he ate our food and drank our booze without even asking and never replace it. One night he has a hooker in the house and also his ex came to the house a couple of times to make scenes and drama. The room was supposed to get clean every week and after the first week, we almost had to beg for it, even when it was included in the price. During the entire staying the host never asked if we needed more toilet paper or new towels so we had to wander around to get new supplies. The host always had an attitude like we were overreacting, sometimes he was really rude and never show interest in making feel the guest comfortable. We tolerate this situation because the location was great and the rooms were still ok comparing to other offers around the area and we even got to the point of feeling pity for the guy. So if you are staying just for a couple of days this place may be ok because you are not gonna get to see all these details as we did during 3 weeks. I DON´T RECOMMEND IT at all for a long term stay.
