The hike is moderate with the last half hour a bit more steep. If you don't feel up to it, there is a horse "taxi" waiting to take you up for 80 soles. Once you get up there and you are lucky enough to have a sunny day, the view is very much worth the effort. We got glimpses of the background mountain through the cloud patches in December.

Normally Awamaki's Andean Overnight excursion is just one night with a family in an Inca Pueblo located in the mountains outside of Ollaytaytambo. But for me, that was not enough, so the people at Awamaki arranged for an extra night with my host family though I wish I had asked for even more time. The family and other members of the community made me feel most welcome and involved me in different aspects of their lives including weaving, tending to animals and harvesting potatoes. It was a rewarding and special experience all professionally handled by the staff of Awamaki.

This trek turned out to be way more than we bargained for, but we still loved every minute! Traveling in Peru in February is rainy and hiking at high altitude is snowy. We really thought it was summer in South America and were not expecting snow. Luckily, our Guide told us what to expect at the briefing, so we had time to buy some warmer clothes before we started the trek. It didn’t snow on any of our campsites, but there was definitely snow up at the top of each pass. Orange Nation sent the most amazing cook with us! Fortunato cooked us really great food and always more than we could eat. That’s saying a lot because my brothers and I eat a lot, especially when hiking. Besides the snow, we also didn’t realize that we would be introduced to so many people who live up in the mountain tops. Honestly, I didn’t think people actually lived at such high altitude and in such isolated valleys. The Orange website says that the guide will translate for us to speak with locals, but I didn’t think we would actually get invited into their homes or that there would be kids coming out to meet us on the trail. It was much more of a cultural experience than we expected. But like the snow, we loved every minute. It was a great trek!

This was s really good experience. The historical site is amazing. And what made it extra perfect Alex Jesús the tour guide was amazing.  Very knowledgeable and friendly.  We moved through the city at a perfect pace not slow not fast. He knew all thr good photo locations and took some great photos of me. He speaks English very clearly and I could understand 100% of what he said all the time. He made good use of his book with pictures as well.   I'm very happy   If I was his boss I would give him a promotion.

I made a serious error when booking this tour. I had my days mixed up and was not able to do my full day tour as I arrived in cusco at noon. Happy Gringro could have just kept my payment and not honored my trip as it was my error in booking. They actually called me and made arrangements to Make a modified personal tour for me and my wife later the same day. That is customer service at its best. I had the error they had no obligation to help and they did. I strongly recommend this group. Marco was very knowledgeable .

Adolfo is the most attentive guide you will ever have in any vacation. The World Explorer crew was available to us 24/7 via phone and Whatsapp so it was always easy to communicate. The tours where very organized and on time. The guides where extremely helpful when it came to explaining but also had a lot of patience when it came to waiting for the group to take their photos. The food offered in the tours is delicious and clean. The prices were amazing, even if you are to sign up for a private tour i doubt you could find something cheaper of the same quality anywhere. There are many things to do in Cuzco, from the sacred valley, to the salt mines, the city tour, the rainbow mountain, Machu Picchu and many other activities. If you want a full complete tour, look no further than world explorers.
