Starting out from Montalbano we’ll cycle on secondary roads with law traffic to reach three different kinds of masserias, each one with different architecture, type, traditional activities and current economic vocation. Tour continuos slowly on small roads lined by stone with drystone walls, rarely visited cattle track and unique landscapes. The paths through the olive groves are truly wonderful and the history along the way is quite fascinating. Some of the olive trees are very old and were planted by the Romans! Daniele is very passionate about the area and the history. He brought us to a family owned Masseria to try and purchase some cheese. We stopped along the way for Daniele to point out special features and visited historic and working olive mills. Daniele is super nice, his English is great and he is very accomodating! The tour ended with a beautiful red sunset. We enjoyed the tour so much, we rented bikes for another day. Must do when you want to combine some activity with exploring the region and history of it!
